Chapter 488 A Desperate Carolyn

“Good.”

The call ended. Charles glanced at the number on his phone–it was the private investigator he’d hired. He’d been expecting an update from his own people, but this news genuinely lifted his spirits.

“What happened six years ago was my fault. If I hadn’t set things in motion back then, Chloe wouldn’t have suffered because of it. I need to find that man–whether he’s alive or dead. I owe her that much.” Charles gave a small gesture, signaling Greg to wheel him outside for some air.

Not long after they left, a figure slipped out from the shadows.

Lately, on Charles‘ orders, Myers Estate had been filled with fresh flowers. Several gardeners had been brought in temporarily to handle the arrangements–and among them was Carolyn, in disguise.

Dressed as an older woman, she was now living right under everyone’s noses at the estate.

Watching the direction Charles had gone, satisfaction flickered in her eyes.

That bitch Chloe had all the luck. She’d had a kid with some random guy, and instead of being destroyed by public opinion, the whole internet was apologizing to her now, acting like she was some kind of hero.

“Jennifer’s still somewhere in the city. No record of her leaving Robert closed his laptop

Chloe nodded thoughtfully, turning over possibilities in her mind about where Jennifer might be hiding

Jennifer was cornered now, and she had the kid with her. Since she couldn’t run she’d probably do something desperate.

She glanced at the screen. Seeing Eugene’s name, she picked up and headed toward her room

Chloe shot her a look, but a smile rugged at her lips as she disappeared inside.

Melinda turned to Zachary, still grinning. “You see that look? Ice cold. But the second brother–in–law comes up, she melts. That’s love for you, man.” She sighed dramatically. “When am I gonna find a sweet girl who looks at me like that?

Zachary almost choked. Luckily, he was used to Melinda’s way of talking by now. He smiled faintly and answered with complete confidence.
