“Ms. Lewis, I was thinking–maybe we could change up the way we address each other. ‘Mr. Rosewood‘ feels a little formal, don’t you think? A bit distant.” Eugene’s voice came through the line, utterly serious.
“Tsk, tsk. And what would you prefer I call you?”
“I wouldn’t mind ‘baby! Or ‘darling.” He cleared his throat, his tone turning even more proper.
“Dreaming big tonight, are we?” Chloe laughed softly, then her voice shifted back. “Alright. What’s this really about?”
“Dinner tomorrow. I’m inviting you.”
“For something that simple, a text would’ve been fine. You didn’t need to call.” Chloe’s mind wandered briefly to the almost playful tone in his voice earlier. Calling him “baby” like that… A little much.
“My parents want to invite you. Figured I should do it properly,” Eugene added.
Chloe had been about to tease him more, but the mention of Hogan and Rhea gave her
pause.
She’d met Eugene’s parents before. She just hadn’t expected an invitation now.
Still, she’d already met them, so it wasn’t a big deal. She was free, so she agreed.
“Alright.”
“Six o’clock tomorrow. Capitole Hotel. I booked a private room.” Eugene added, “Ordered everything you and Robert like.”
From the background, a woman’s voice cut in. “Listen to him, Hogan! This is what they call forgetting all about your mother once you’ve got a girlfriend.”
A man’s voice followed, amused. “What if your tastes are the same as Chloe’s? She’s the guest. Makes sense to follow her lead.”
“But I’m the one hosting. Shouldn’t I get a say? And what about Robert–shouldn’t we think about what he likes too?”
“See you tomorrow. I’m hanging up now.” Eugene’s voice cut off abruptly, followed by the click of the call ending.
Chloe held her phone, replaying Rhea and Hogan’s voices in her head. A smile tugged at her lips.
She finally understood something: where Eugene got his personality from.
That stubborn streak–that refusal to back down–was pure inheritance.
Being around people like that? Life would never be boring.

Chapter 489 Meeting the Parents
Chloe picked out a sharp little suit for Robert, carefully adjusting the small tie at his collar.
Robert watched her put on light makeup, one eyebrow lifting.
“Mom, you’re all dressed up. You going on a date?”

“Troublemaker. What are you talking about?” She smoothed his lapel. “Your teacher told me you’re speaking on stage today. If you’re going up there, you need to look the part.” She gave him a pointed look. “Do well. Make your teachers proud.”
“Relax. I’ve already claimed them as my unofficial protégé. I have to set an example.” He shot her a mischievous grin.
“Don’t bully those professors too much.” Chloe reached out, brushing his cheek. “Do your best. I have the Myers Group board meeting today. I’ll pick you up after, and we’re going out to dinner together.”
“With Eugene?” Robert tilted his head, curious. “I was listening in, you know. Grandpa and Grandma are treating us tonight. Big feast.”
“You little eavesdropper.” She tried to look stern but couldn’t quite manage it. “Be serious now.”
“Got it, Mom. In front of Grandpa and Grandma, I’ll be the perfect gentleman.” He wiped the grin off his face, replacing it with an exaggeratedly solemn expression.
“Melinda will take you to school.” Chloe headed back to her room, did a simple makeup touch–up, and changed into a tailored suit.
As the newly minted majority shareholder of Myers Group, attending today’s board meeting wasn’t optional. Charles would be there too.
At the meeting venue, Gordon was the first to approach Chloe as she arrived. He handed her a folder.
“Ms. Lewis, these are notes I’ve put together over the years. Thought they might be useful.” He looked slightly awkward. “There are a few suggestions in there. I hope you’ll consider them.”
Chloe acknowledged him with a nod and skimmed the contents briefly. Her eyebrow lifted slightly. “Mr. Wills, these are excellent. I’ll take them under serious advisement.”
Gordon’s worried expression melted into a relieved smile.
“Thank you, Ms. Lewis. I knew I wasn’t wrong to trust you.” He barely contained his excitement, falling into. step behind her as they entered the conference room.
Inside, the senior executives and board members were already seated. Charles was in the main seat–well, the seat beside the main seat.
