Chapter 490 A New Beginning

The head of the table sat empty. Charles remained in his wheelchair, positioned just at the edge of the conference room.

When Chloe walked in, he lifted a hand slightly, gesturing for her to take the seat at the head of the table.

She glanced around the room. Arthur was nowhere in sight.

She stepped forward and sat down. Across from her, Gordon settled into his chair, back ramrod straight like a fresh recruit. His posture practically screamed readiness, impossible to miss.

“Everyone, I’m getting too old to keep up. From here on out, it’s up to all of you,” Charles spoke simply, effectively handing over control.

“I think you all know by now–Myers Group wouldn’t be where it is today without Ms. Lewis‘ early contributions. Having her as one of our shareholders now is an honor for this company.” He paused, then shifted tone. “I have a special announcement to make. Arthur will officially step down as CEO effective immediately.”

Just as Charles finished speaking, the conference room door opened, and Arthur walked in, dressed in a sharply tailored suit.

Every pair of eyes followed him as he moved. Chloe glanced his way but kept her expression calm, simply waiting to see what came next.

Arthur crossed the room and stood beside Charles, then bowed formally to everyone present.

“I owe you all an apology. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received over the years, but due to my own. failings, I’m officially stepping down as CEO of Myers Group today.”

Charles looked at him and spoke evenly. “This decision was made after discussions between us. Arthur is stepping down, however…

“We’ll be appointing him as General Manager in a new capacity, with a salaried position, overseeing relevant company operations.” Charles turned to Chloe with a faint smile. “Chloe, from now on, you’re running this company. Arthur here still has a lot to learn–he’ll be reporting to you. If he doesn’t measure. up, you let him have it. And if he gives you trouble, I’ll handle it personally.”

His casual remark nearly drew laughter from the shareholders around the table.

Arthur kept his composure and simply replied, “Grandpa, I’m still a Myers. No need to embarrass me

further.”

“You brought this on yourself. Be grateful you’re still here at all,” Charles shot back, then fell silent.

Arthur offered a thin smile and turned to Chloe, nodding slightly. “Ms. Lewis, I look forward to working with you. I’ll do everything I can to help run Myers Group well.”

Hearing Arthur address her as “Ms. Lewis“, Chloe smiled lightly and responded, “We’re all looking forward to seeing what you do.”

After the turbulence of recent weeks, the board meeting felt surprisingly calm. During the session, Chloe approved Gordon’s proposals and promoted Gordon, giving him a seat at the table in company

management.

In short, aside from Arthur handling day–to–day execution, Gordon now held real authority in steering Myers Group’s direction.

Gordon was practically beaming. He stood and gave a sincere pledge to take full responsibility and never let Chloe down.

Seeing him like that, Chloe just smiled faintly. Gordon had poured himself into the company over the years. Before, his hands had been tied–too many shareholders and executives coasting along, collecting paychecks without contributing. Now with the dead weight gone and Gordon’s authority solidified, she felt confident Myers Group’s future was in good hands.

The meeting adjourned.

Shareholders filed out one by one.

“Chloe, it’s yours now,” Charles said warmly. Watching the company’s evolution had genuinely pleased him.

“Charles, don’t worry. Myers Group will be fine,” Chloe said calmly. She glanced up at Arthur and offered a faint smile.

He stood where he was and returned it seriously. There was nothing else in their eyes now.

Arthur was doing his best to keep his emotions in check. For him, at least, this was the best outcome he could have hoped for.

At least he’d still get to see her.

“Chloe, let’s grab a meal together!” Charles invited. “Arthur needs to start learning the ropes. Now that you’ll be working together, having dinner isn’t too much to ask.”

Worried she might say no, Charles added a quick explanation.

Chloe checked the time on her phone. She still had a while before picking up Robert. She’d been meaning to stop by the mall and pick up a few things. Last time she saw Rhea and Hogan, she hadn’t gotten them. anything. She wanted to choose something herself–not about the price, just the thought mattered to her.
