Chapter 507 Lingering Uncase

Once he could crack that, he’d be able to pull up the footage of the men from that night.

Then he could cross–reference their data and run facial recognition on each one. The process would be complicated, but right now, it was the only lead he had.

If it weren’t for all the chaos lately, he might have already identified the guy who checked into that hotel

Thinking back on everything that had gone down recently, Robert couldn’t shake this uneasy feeling deep in his gut. Like something big was still lurking just around the corner.

But they were out of danger now. So why did he still feel so on edge?

After hearing what happened to Chloe and the others, Charles was beside himself with worry. His health was already fragile, and the sudden news hit him so hard he nearly blacked out. Luckily, Arthur got back just in time with word that Chloe and everyone else had made it out safely.

Charles gave his quiet approval for Jenarth to be laid to rest in the Myers family plot. As for the boy, he just sighed. He was just a kid, after all. With the right guidance, he might’ve grown into someone decent. Such a shame–with a mother like Jennifer, it was always going to end badly.

“Send more people to track down Jennifer. I want her found, dead or alive.” After everything Jennifer had pulled, Charles was genuinely on edge.

“How’s Chloe doing?”

After his men confirmed Chloe was safe and that Eugene had been hurt protecting her and was now in the hospital, Charles decided he needed to go see them himself.

“Mr. Myers, with your condition right now, you really shouldn’t leave the house. Blaine’s there, so Ms. Lewis is in good hands,” Greg advised firmly, stepping in to gently guide Charles back into his chair.

No sooner had Charles settled back down than a harsh coughing fit took over.

“Ms. Lewis specifically said you should just focus on resting here at home. Let everyone else handle the rest,” Greg said quickly, pouring Charles a glass of water and handing him some medicine to calm the cough.

Charles took the meds, and after a few minutes, he started feeling better, his emotions slowly settling.

“I’m really not what I used to be.” Charles let out a long sigh and thumped his own legs in frustration. I’m useless now, can’t even help Chloe properly. Damn it.”

“Mr. Myers, seeing you like this will only make Ms. Lewis worry about you,” Greg said quietly. When Charles didn’t respond, he added, “The information you asked someone to dig into should be coming back

soon.”

Hearing that, Charles looked up, his whole expression brightening with anticipation.

“That’s good news. I’ve been waiting on this for way too long.” A rare smile spread across Charles‘ face, and the constant tension he’d been carrying seemed to ease up a bit.

Charles murmured softly, “Really good news… What I owe Chloe, I’ll pay back by getting her the truth.”

Greg didn’t say anything else. He just wheeled Charles out to the front courtyard to get some sun.

Not long after Charles and Greg disappeared from sight, a figure emerged from the shadows.

A woman stared in the direction Charles had gone, replaying the conversation she’d just overheard. Her eyes turned dark, cold, dangerous.

Jennifer couldn’t quite remember how she’d been rescued. Her memories were fuzzy–just the overwhelming stench of fish everywhere, sharp and sickening.

She recalled being tossed onto a bed. The people around her spoke a language she couldn’t understand. For a moment, she thought some kind strangers had saved her… until the boat hit shore and a group of people showed up, immediately taking her away.

She never got a chance to explain, not a single word, before they hauled her off.

During their conversations, she caught bits of a language she actually understood. They clearly said her name. Who were these people? And how did they know about her?

She was completely confused, but weirdly enough, she wasn’t scared. The way these people were dressed- they clearly weren’t the good guys.

A few hours later, they brought her to some island.

No one told her what this place was. But when she saw the insane luxury everywhere, she started to realize what it meant to stumble into another world entirely.

“Who are you people?”

After they dragged her into some building and practically threw her inside, Jennifer managed to rasp out the question just as her captors were about to leave.

A big guy with a nasty scar across his face, already at the door, suddenly stopped and turned back to look at her.

Meeting the scarred man’s cold stare, Jennifer instinctively shrank back. She was still soaking wet, the outline of her figure showing through her clothes. The only thing was the slight swell of her belly–she was clearly pregnant.

For a second, Jennifer thought these were the type who’d take advantage. But then it hit her; if that was what they wanted, they wouldn’t have brought her all the way to this island and into this room untouched. They could’ve done whatever they wanted back on the boat, when she was at her most vulnerable.
