After they finished eating, Chloe finally called Zachary. That was when she found out Robert was with him-along with Oralia and Melinda too. Apparently they were all hanging out together, playing video games at the neighboring house.

“Chloe, don’t even worry about it! You just enjoy your alone time with Mr. Rosewood. I’ve got this little troublemaker Robert covered for you!” Zachary’s voice suddenly got louder. “Ah man, I lost again! If I go broke, you better remember to throw a few more gigs my way, alright?”

Hearing that, Chloe almost laughed out loud.

“Got it. I’m hanging up now.” Without another word, she ended the call. So that was why her phone had been so quiet all day.

They’d all been in on it together.

“What do you want to eat tonight? I can start getting things ready early.” A pair of restless hands suddenly slipped around her waist, and warm breath ghosted over her shoulder, sending a shiver down her neck.

“Whatever your parents like is fine with me. I’m not picky,” Chloe said softly, simply.

“Alright!” Eugene agreed, but he didn’t let go. He just kept holding her. “Babe… I want you.”

The way he said “want” made her brain short-circuit for a second. This man was seriously good at the whole begging thing. One simple word, and he’d said everything.

She’d heard it so many times last night, and here he was again. Just hearing him made her legs feel like jelly.

“Stop messing around. Where are your car keys? I need to run out for a bit.” She reached back and pried his hands off.

Eugene pouted slightly but walked over to a shelf nearby and grabbed the keys.

“The car’s at the office. Where do you need to go? I can have Bruce drive over and pick you up. Right now, there’s only a black sedan in the garage here. Where are you headed? I can take you.”

“I’m just going out to grab a few things. I’ll be back soon.” Chloe took the keys straight from his hand. “This is my first time properly meeting your parents. Don’t you think I should bring something?”

“They’d be happy enough just seeing you. You don’t need gifts. Don’t go-let’s just head back upstairs, yeah?” He gave her his best pleading look. “I’m serious. I’m still really hungry.”

Chloe felt her face go even hotter.

He’d always been a little shameless, but this was a whole new level.

“That’s on you. I really do need to go get some things.” She pulled her hand back and tightened her grip on the keys. “I’ll be back before dinner, don’t worry.” This time, she really was going to meet his parents.

She meant it. Completely. “Get the big meal ready and wait for me. I’ll send Robert over to find you later.”

“Fine.” Eugene nodded, though he still looked a little reluctant. “Tonight… we’re picking up where we left off?”

Chloe rolled her eyes at him, grabbed her phone, and turned to leave.

Eugene watched her go, a small smile tugging at his lips. He looked pretty satisfied with himself.

Chloe eyed the sleek black sedan sitting in the garage. This thing probably cost a fortune. Even his daily driver was ridiculous.

She shot Robert a quick text, telling him to meet Eugene at this house later. They were basically neighbors anyway-it was kind of a shame she’d never mentioned it before.

Her hands on the steering wheel, Chloe let her mind drift back over everything with Eugene. It felt like she’d been waiting for this day for so long.
