But what Vincent was waiting for never came. Chloe’s blade didn’t slow-it accelerated, driving straight for his throat.
His eyes went dark. Fury flashed through them as he moved-fast, like lightning. He twisted aside, avoiding the strike by inches, then grabbed her wrist and wrenched the knife around, reversing it toward her own throat.
Chloe watched the blade come at her. She didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Just let it race toward her neck.
Vincent’s expression shifted. His other hand shot out, catching the blade mid-swing.
The edge sliced through his palm as it stopped, cutting deep. Blood welled up, bright red against his skin, then started dripping.
Chloe stumbled, nearly losing her balance.
Vincent stood there, the knife now in his hand. He looked down at the wound on his arm-if he hadn’t stopped it, that blade would’ve taken her throat. She’d made no move to defend herself. Just let it come.
Did she hate being back with him that much? Or did she love that man so deeply that the moment he mentioned killing him, she lost all reason?
Chloe was breathing hard, her eyes locked on him with obvious fury. She looked like an angry wildcat-push her too far and she’d sink her teeth in, damn the consequences.
“You can’t hurt me.” Vincent watched his own blood hit the floor. His composure cracked, something ugly flickering across his face. “I taught you everything. Every move. You’ll never beat me, not now, not ever.” His voice dropped. “My Clo-Clo. Stop playing games.”
“If you touch anyone I care about,” Chloe’s voice came out low, raw with rage, “I will kill you.”
Vincent raised an eyebrow. “You can’t. Don’t waste your energy.”
“Can’t kill you?” A cold smile curved her lips. “Then I’ll kill myself. Go ahead-test me. See if I
won’t do it.”
She said it with a smile, like it was nothing. Like her own life meant nothing.
Vincent’s face went pale. No one knew Chloe better than him.
In Silverash, she was Clo. Cold. Lethal. A machine built for killing.

Who could break someone like that? Someone cruel enough to turn that cruelty on herself? Who would dare push her to that edge?
His eyes turned colder, watching the blood seep from his arm. In the past, she would’ve rushed over. Helped him bandage it. Cared.
Now she just stood there. Watching. Unmoved.
Chloe turned her back on him and walked to the table, sitting down like nothing happened.
Vincent looked at his arm. He needed to tend to it, or he really might bleed out.
But in Chloe’s eyes, there was no room for him anymore. Not even the loyalty of a subordinate. Not even a trace of that innocent obedience she’d had when they first met.
His Clo-Clo was gone.
Completely gone. The woman in front of him wasn’t the one he’d known.
No.
That wasn’t right. This was still Clo-Clo.
He stared at her, his voice going cold. “Let’s make a bet. If Jennifer succeeds—if she pulls it off- you stay here. Forever. By my side. You become mine.”
The words “become mine” hung in the air. Chloe looked up at him, and the fury in her eyes sharpened. They both knew exactly what that meant.
She said nothing. Just watched him.
“If she fails,” Vincent’s voice dropped lower, “I won’t touch anyone you care about. Silverash leaves them alone. Completely.” He paused. “You don’t lose anything here. The question is-are you brave enough to take that bet?”
Chloe’s lips curled. “Brave enough? The man I chose? He’d die for me. If he can’t even tell the difference between me and some cheap imitation pretending to be me, then my judgment’s worse than I thought.” She held his gaze, unflinching. Disdain written all over her face.
Vincent studied her for a long moment, then smiled slightly. “Good. Then we have a bet. I’m looking forward to seeing how this ends.” His eyes glittered. “I imagine you are too.”
Chloe didn’t dignify that with a response. “Get out.”
