Eugene ignored him, turning instead to gaze out the window–his posture making it clear he wasn’t in the

mood for conversation.

Bruce took the hint and answered the call, lowering his voice.

“Hello, Mr. Myers. What can I do for you?”

Bruce’s relaxed expression froze as he listened to the voice on the other end. Almost immediately, he turned back toward Eugene, tense. “Mr. Rosewood,” he said quietly, “Mr. Charles Myers… has passed away.”

At those words, Eugene’s face darkened. The news hit him out of nowhere.

“Give me the phone,” Eugene said, already reaching for it.

Bruce handed it over without hesitation. Eugene brought it to his ear. “When did it happen?”

On the other end, Arthur explained the situation briefly. With Charles gone and Chloe still missing, Arthur’s voice sounded weary and hollow. Eugene could hear the exhaustion right through the line.

“Understood. I’ll stop by later,” Eugene replied before ending the call.

Silence filled the car.

Eugene stayed quiet, just sitting there. Bruce kept glancing back from the passenger seat, waiting for instructions.

They weren’t particularly close to the Myers family, but Charles was different. Given how well he’d treated Chloe–and how she felt about him–Eugene couldn’t simply look the other way.

The car had already circled the city twice.

Originally, they were headed back to Riverville Prime Residence. After hearing about Charles‘ passing, the driver had held off, waiting for Eugene’s direction. With none given, he’d kept driving around aimlessly.

“Take us to Myers Estate,” Eugene finally said, his tone firm.

“Right away,” the driver responded, pressing the accelerator and turning toward Myers Estate.

Twenty minutes later, they arrived.

Myers Estate had been organized in record time. Everything needed for the final arrangements was already on hand; only minor adjustments were required.

Eugene surveyed the scene without showing any particular emotion.

“Mr. Rosewood, right this way,” Donald said as soon as he spotted Eugene, stepping forward with a respectful nod.

Eugene acknowledged him briefly, casually picking a white chrysanthemum from a nearby floral display as he made his way inside.
