Chapter 585 The Veil Lifts

Just then, Eugene’s phone rang. The sudden chime cut through the heavy silence, making the already tense scene feel even more unnerving.
Eugene pulled out his phone, checked the screen, and answered without hesitation, holding it lightly to his ear.
“I’ve got a lead on Mommy’s location.” Robert’s urgent voice came through. “Looks like she’s somewhere inside Capaville. I’m narrowing it down–give me a few more minutes and I can pin it to an exact address. Zachary’s driving. We’re heading toward the signal now.”
Hearing his brother’s voice, Eugene let out a soft, low reply.
“I know. Thanks, Robert.”
Before Robert could say anything else, Eugene ended the call.
He lifted his eyes, his gaze fixed intently on the veiled figure standing behind Carl. His voice was steadier now, almost certain. “Take off the veil. Let me see your face.”
At that same moment, Noah’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen but didn’t pick up. Instead, he called out to his father, “Dad, our guys are here. They’re outside Myers Estate right now. Just say the word and they’ll have the place surrounded.”
A murmur spread through the guests. What had started as a funeral was spiraling into something else entirely.
Frank felt a wave of unease. Crossing the Binghams was bad news for anyone in business–why was Eugene pushing things this far?
He shot a look toward Arthur. Things were getting out of hand. Maybe it was time to get Eugene out of here. His behavior today was completely off–why was he so fixated on someone from the Bingham family?
He was usually so controlled. What had gotten into him?
“Young man,” Carl said, his tone carrying a mix of disbelief and challenge. “Are you really trying to force a confrontation here?”
Eugene didn’t flinch. A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched his lips. “We’ll see who blinks
first.”
“Fine. Suit yourself. Let’s see how far you’re willing to take this.” Carl gave Noah a slight nod.
Noah raised his phone, ready to give the order–when another voice cut in.

It was soft, so quiet it could’ve been missed if you weren’t listening closely.
But those nearby heard it clearly. Especially Eugene.
The moment that voice reached him, something shifted in his eyes. His focus locked entirely on the figure behind the black veil.
Just one word—but it was her voice. The one he’d been waiting to hear for what felt like forever.
It was Chloe.
Eugene’s body tensed, an almost reflexive urge to push past Noah and Amber and pull her to him.
Hearing her, Noah and Amber exchanged glances and stepped slightly aside.
Carl watched as the veiled figure turned toward Eugene. He moved as if to speak, hesitated, then simply gave a slow nod and stood quietly beside her, leaning on his cane.
The woman in black took a step forward, stopping in front of Eugene.
Behind the veil, her face remained hidden, but he could feel her eyes on him. His own gaze intensified, unwavering.
“You said…” she began, her voice quiet, cool, distant. “Even if there’s trouble… you wouldn’t hesitate to have me remove this?”
This time, her words were clear enough for those nearby–Frank, Scott, Arthur–to hear. >
Arthur stiffened on the spot. That voice… There was no way he had misheard it.
That voice belonged to just one person in the whole world. He had heard it so many times, even in his dreams late at night–the voice that was uniquely Chloe’s, the most precious person he had ever lost.
Could it really be Chloe speaking?
Arthur stood there frozen, utterly unable to trust what he had just heard. Only moments before, Eugene had stepped right in to keep the other person from leaving, and he had even demanded firmly to see what they looked like beneath the veil.
