Late in the afternoon, Eugene's car had just left the company and was heading back to Riverville Prime Residence when a black sedan suddenly swerved in front of him, cutting him off with a sharp, aggressive move.
His driver slammed on the brakes. Eugene jolted forward in his seat. Beside him, Bruce—seated in the passenger seat—turned with a start. "A car just pulled—"
Before he could finish, Bruce's expression shifted completely. "Mr. Rosewood... it's Ms. Lewis."
At the mention of her name, Eugene's entire demeanor changed.
He lifted his gaze and stared through the windshield toward the other vehicle. Even through the glass, he could clearly make out who was inside.
Chloe. Sitting behind the wheel, staring back at him with a look of quiet determination.
"Mr. Rosewood, should we check what's—"
Bruce began to ask, but Eugene was already pushing his door open and stepping out. In moments, he was standing right in front of Chloe's car.
Watching from their vehicle, Bruce felt a twist of nervousness. Chloe had appeared out of nowhere with what seemed like a deliberate, almost confrontational maneuver. And Eugene—completely wrapped around her finger—was walking right into it without hesitation. The whole scene felt charged, to say the least.
Eugene stood before the hood and offered a faint, almost amused smile through the window.
The glass slid down. Chloe met his eyes and didn't bother with pleasantries—just one clear, concise sentence. "Get in."
Eugene's smile deepened. "Alright, sweetheart."
Chloe said nothing, but her lips pressed into a thin line.
Looking genuinely pleased, Eugene walked around to the passenger side, opened the door smoothly, and settled into the seat beside her.
Chloe watched him buckle in, then hit the gas. The car accelerated sharply, pulling away from the curb.
Back in the other car, Bruce watched the two of them drive off together and instinctively ducked his head slightly, as if avoiding the tension still hanging in the air.
The driver—recently transferred from a regional office and clearly unfamiliar with the dynamics here—gripped the steering wheel uncertainly. "Bruce... should we follow them?"
Bruce glanced at him. The poor guy had no idea what he'd just witnessed.
"It's fine. Let's head back. Consider yourself off early today," Bruce said, patting the driver's shoulder with a look of practiced seriousness.
The driver only grew more confused.
Inside Chloe's car, the speed climbed as they moved toward the outskirts of the city. Eugene didn't ask where they were headed. He just leaned back in his seat, relaxed and looking at her profile.
"You still love me," he said, tone casual but sure.
