He Didn’t Look for Me Until I Was Dead (by Durrin) novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Calvin’s expression froze for a brief moment.

His voice was sharp as he said, Don’t joke about this!

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, then a heavy tone: Captain McMullen, it’s true!

Youcome back right now!

Calvin swayed slightly, then quickly strode toward the car.

Police station, technical department.

Everyone watched Calvin walk in, not daring to say a word.

Calvin sat down, swept a cold gaze around, and said, Get someone over here. I’m calling Whitney. You track the location.

He paused, then spoke each word deliberately: Maybe she lost her phone, or maybe the fingerprint analysis was wrong.

Whitney could not possibly be in trouble!

No one dared to provoke him. A technician brought over the equipment and sat down beside him.

Captain McMullen, you can start now.

Calvin’s movements were stiff as he dialed my number.

One second, two seconds, three secondsthe call connected.

Calvin’s tense expression eased a little. He licked his dry lips and said coldly, Whitney, say something.

The technician beside him was clicking the mouse so nervously that it almost broke.

But there was only silence on the other end of the line.

Calvin seemed to sense something was wrong. Just as he was about to speak, a man’s soft chuckle came from the other end.

In that instant, I saw shock flare in everyone’s eyes, and then all eyes turned to Calvin.

The man seemed to realize he had slipped up and immediately hung up the call.

Calvin slowly looked at the technician, his voice hoarse and terrifying.

Where’s the location?”

The technician closed his eyes in distress and said, It’s right near the crime scene!

Calvin blinked. In just a second, his eyes turned red.

Impossible! Whitney can’t be in trouble!

He suddenly stood up, his palm pressing hard against the table.

Mobilize everyone, deploy immediately, and make the arrest!

The police cars sped down the road, and before they even reached the location, they ran straight into a man dressed in black with a black backpack.

When the man saw the police cars, he turned and ran in the opposite direction without hesitation.

At that moment, everyone was energized, and all the officers from the three cars rushed out.

In just five minutes, both the suspect and the evidence were apprehended.

The man’s howls as he struggled sent a shiver through my soul.

That voice was exactly the same as the gasping of the killer on that night!

Calvin walked up to him and pulled up a photo of me on his phone.

Where is she?

The man looked up, and when he saw my face, he suddenly gave a strange smile.

Officer, so this is your wife?

His chilling words made Calvin’s eyes turn red. Calvin grabbed his collar tightly.

I’ll ask you again, where is she!”

Seeing Calvin like this, the killer only laughed even more arrogantly.

After he finished laughing, he glanced toward the room in the back and said, She’s in there. Go

find her yourself.

I looked at the pitchblack room, and a sudden chill crept into my heart.

Calvin, don’t go

But no matter how I called out, Calvin still rushed into that room.

The room was dimly lit, with a shabby desk beside the bed.

On it, all sorts of things were neatly arranged.

Calvin suddenly stopped in his tracks. A few seconds later, he almost lunged forward and grabbed a ring from the desk.

I looked at that ring and closed my eyes in pain.

It was my wedding ring.

Calvin murmured, NoWhitney, it can’t be

He staggered forward, and when he reached the end of the room, six huge freezers suddenly appeared!

Each freezer had a different label on it.

Calvin tilted his head back slightly, his eyes looking even more bloodshot under the white light.

His steps grew faster and faster.

Suddenly, he stopped in front of the last freezer.

On this last freezer, my name was written.

Whitney

Calvin stood petrified for two seconds, then suddenly yanked open the freezer.

And then, he was staring straight at my frostcovered face!
