Chapter 15
He frowned at Georgia, but his hand loosened from the door.
Seeing this, she thought Calvin had softened, and hurried to take the opportunity to enter.
But unexpectedly, the man blocked the doorway firmly, not allowing her to take even half a step inside.
Georgia had been met with coldness despite her warmth for quite some time now. In her eyes, she truly couldn’t understand why Calvin had changed so drastically.
Wasn’t it always herself whom he loved?
Her eyes instantly reddened with tears as she asked. “Cal, why have you changed?”
At her words, Calvin’s expression immediately turned cold. “You know very well what you’ve
done.”
Hearing this, a flash of panic crossed Georgia’s face, but she instinctively denied it. “What? What did I do?”
The man’s tone was icy. “You said a friend saw Whitty abroad, and that there was a strange man with her. But at that time, Whitty had already…”
He paused, then said sharply, “Isn’t that slander?!”
Georgia retorted without a hint of guilt. “Maybe my friend made a mistake. It’s my fault for trusting my friend too much. I didn’t……..”
Before she could finish, Calvin interrupted her. “Enough! Leave.”
With that, as if he had no patience left to listen, he slammed the door shut with a bang.
Georgia was left standing outside. She stared at the tightly closed door before her, a trace of unwillingness flickering in her eyes.
But in the end, she didn’t persist any further. Biting her lip, she left.
It was only after learning of Whitney’s death that Calvin realized just how many times he had been deceived by Georgia’s innocent appearance.
Chapter 15
He sat down on the sofa in exhaustion, hating himself for waking up too late.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
Calvin answered, and heard the lawyer’s voice: “Captain McMullen, about the divorce…”
The serial murder case was a major criminal case and had not been made public.
The lawyer was clearly unaware of Whitney’s death.
Only then did Calvin remember this matter.
He paused, then said in a low voice, “No need. I’m not getting divorced.”
Then he hung up the phone.
Calvin turned and stared blankly in the direction of the entryway.

There was a faint trace of the word ‘happiness‘ on the door, a character he had personally torn off.
In his life, Calvin had rarely felt regret.
But at this moment, he deeply understood just how painful such an emotion could be.
It was like an abyss without a single ray of light.
After that day, Calvin returned to work at the police station as usual, as if nothing had changed.
But anyone could see that he was different.
He had never been one to smile, but now it was as if a layer of ice had formed on his face, making people even more reluctant to approach.
Calvin threw himself into his work even more than before. In just half a year, he solved more than a dozen major cases.
It seemed as if he was deliberately trying to keep himself busy.
On the occasional day off, he would go to the cemetery and sit in front of Whitney’s tombstone for the entire day.
No one knew what Calvin said there.
Georgia would still look for him from time to time, but he always avoided her.
And so the days passed, one after another.

In a world without Whitney, Calvin worked numbly like a tireless machine, year after year.
In the end, he collapsed at his post.
In his final moments, for the first time in a daze, he saw Whitney’s silhouette.
Calvin slowly reached out his hand, but then drew it back, not daring to touch her.
His eyes grew moist, and he gave a bitter smile. “All these years, you never once came to me in
my dreams. Now, I finally get to see you…”
