He Didn’t Look for Me Until I Was Dead (by Durrin) novel Chapter 24

Chapter 24

As soon as he finished speaking, Reginald suddenly fell silent.

He gazed at me deeply, as if something was about to burst forth from his eyes.

Suddenly, I couldn’t bring myself to meet his gaze. I hurriedly turned away and urged, Let’s go, class is about to start.

After that day, there seemed to be a subtle change in the way Reginald looked at me, but I didn’t have time to dwell on what exactly was hidden in those dark eyes of his.

After all, there were only two months left until the SAT.

Maybe it was the whole school atmosphere that had become tense.

During the twomonth countdown to the SAT, Georgia didn’t cause any more trouble.

Finally, after burying myself in my studies, the SAT arrived.

No matter how many times you go through it, walking out of the SAT exam room always feels like surviving a disaster.

Even after taking it twice, I couldn’t help but feel anxious.

Outside the exam hall, a group of parents stood craning their necks, waiting for their children to

come out.

I looked around, but in the end, I withdrew my gaze in disappointment.

Just like last time, my mom and dad didn’t come.

I forced a bitter smile, then walked alone through the crowd and headed out.

After all, it wasn’t the first or second time I’d been disappointed, so why bother hoping anymore?

Just as I left the school gate, I heard Reginald’s voice behind me: Whitney!

I turned around and saw the boy riding his bicycle toward me.

He looked so carefree and exuberant that I couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment.

When Reginald stopped in front of me, I asked, You’re not even taking the SAT, so what are you doing here?

He curled his lips into a smile and said, I came to pick you up. Let’s go celebrate properly.

As he spoke, Reginald turned his head and nodded toward the back seat of his bicycle with his chin, signaling for me to get on.

It felt as if someone had gently poked my heart with their fingertip, making it instantly soft and tender.

At such an important moment, I realized I did long for someone to celebrate with me.

I nodded and sat on the back seat of his bike.

Reginald turned to confirm, Hold on tight, I’m about to go!

Then, with a push of his foot, he took me to the amusement park.

Although this amusement park wasn’t far from home, no one had ever taken me there before.

I turned to Reginald in surprise and asked, Youwhy did you bring me here?

He smiled smugly and said, Didn’t you say back in freshman year that you really wanted to go to the amusement park?

Thinking about it, it had been quite a while.

I must have mentioned it casually back then, never expecting Reginald to remember it.

Seeing me in a daze, he simply took my wrist and said, Come on, since we’re here, let’s have a great time.

I followed him into the amusement park, running along with his steps. Suddenly, the midsummer breeze didn’t feel so hot anymoreit became cool and refreshing.

Just like the boy in white before me, as refreshing as a bottle of mint soda.

He skillfully took me through every attraction in the amusement park, and by the time we came out of the haunted house, it was already dark.

Colorful lights lit up throughout the amusement park.

No matter how reluctant I was, the happy moments of today had to come to an end.

Reginald took me home.

Chapter 24

Before he turned to leave, I said, Reginald, I had a great time today. Thank you.

Reginald smiled and said, As long as you’re happy.

Then he paused for a moment. Well, II’ll get going now.

A trace of sadness flashed in his eyes.

Then he turned his bike around and left.

I knew that perhaps there was a bit of regret in Reginald’s heart.

He was about to go abroad, and even these warm moments were destined to be fleeting in life.

I watched until Reginald’s figure completely disappeared.

Only then did I turn and go back home.

When I opened the door, I couldn’t help but pause in surprise.

On the windowsill by my desk, there was a familiar little note.

I walked over, unfolded the note, and saw Calvin’s handwriting.
