But just as I was about to close the door, I felt a force pushing back against me, refusing to let me
shut it.
Puzzled, I turned around and saw Georgia bracing herself against my doorframe, staring straight
at me.
I hadn’t expected her to do that so suddenly, and it startled me enough that my grip loosened.
Georgia pushed the door open and walked into my apartment.
I frowned and asked, “What are you doing?”
She changed her shoes without a word, strolled into my home as if she belonged there, sat down on the sofa, and then looked up at me. “I have nowhere to stay. I’ll be living here for a few days.”
It seemed Calvin had refused her request to stay at his place.
I didn’t want to agree either, so I frowned and asked, “Are you planning to stay in New York?”
Georgia responded nonchalantly.
Her answer didn’t surprise me; after all, Calvin was in New York.
But I was really troubled. How did things end up like this?
I had tried so hard to escape from them, but in the end, I was still passively drawn into their relationship.
If this continued, who knew how many more unexpected things would happen in the future.
I had to talk to Calvin.
I put down the vegetables in my hand and turned to leave.
Georgia called out from behind, “Where are you going? Aren’t you making dinner?”
I didn’t answer her and went straight to knock on Calvin’s door.
But after a long while, there was no response. It seemed he wasn’t home.
Georgia’s voice confirmed my guess. She said, “Stop knocking. He went to report in at the

Hearing that, I stopped what I was doing, turned to look at her, and said, “There is nothing between Calvin and me–there never was, and there never will be.”
Strictly speaking, what I said wasn’t wrong. After all, everything from my previous life existed only in my own memory.
To them, I really had nothing to do with Calvin right now.
Georgia was momentarily stunned by how serious I looked.
I ignored her and brushed past, heading back to my apartment.
Just as I took a step, I saw Calvin at the end of the hallway.
He stood there, his expression unreadable, and I had no idea how much of the conversation he
had overheard.
Even though I was telling the truth, for some reason, a wave of guilt washed over me.
But I had nothing left to explain.
Calvin had already started walking toward us.
His deep, dark eyes never left mine the entire time, as if he wanted to pierce right through my
soul.
That look shook me for a moment, but in the next instant, I snapped out of it and pushed Georgia toward him.
I quickly averted my gaze and tried to escape into my apartment. “Whatever is going on between the two of you, I don’t want to be involved. If you have something to say, talk it out yourselves.”
Just as I opened the door, I felt Calvin grab my wrist. The warmth of his palm seeped through my skin and into my blood, making me shiver and break out in goosebumps.
Instinctively, I shook off his hand, but my tone remained calm and restrained. “Is there something else?”
Calvin’s face darkened with anger at my blunt rejection. “Whitney, do you really have to push me away again and again?”
Of course, the one most heartbroken by his words was Georgia.
She stared at everything before her in shock, as if she couldn’t believe that the man in front of her

My voice turned cold. “I don’t understand you, Calvin. Georgia is clearly the one in your heart. I have no idea why you’ve changed like this, or what it’s all for.”
