Nelson glanced at Quinn. "Clean this up."

Quinn immediately directed the bodyguards to disappear into the darkness.

Because the clearing was brightly lit by headlights, Juniper, hiding on a higher ridge, likely saw the entire scene unfold and knew Nelson had arrived.

She stared at the jagged rocks scattered around her before hiding behind a particularly large boulder, zoning out as she looked at the gun in her hand.

It was the weapon Jasmine had given her for protection. Hunter's men never would have guessed she was armed, which was why they were caught completely off guard when she opened fire.

Juniper tossed the gun into a crevice between the rocks, waiting for the chaos outside to settle and for Nelson to find her.

Nelson was still in his dress shoes, but he was sprinting down the steep slope with complete disregard for his own safety. He stumbled after a few steps, crashing down right next to Juniper and scraping his palms raw and bloody.

Seeing that Juniper's eyes were open and she was still breathing, the suffocating tension in his chest finally eased. He covered his eyes with one hand and immediately lashed out. "Are you out of your mind? You just follow anyone who tells you to come with them?"

He was practically shaking with fury. Even as he scolded her, his hands frantically checked her legs and the rest of her body. Only when he confirmed there were no other fatal injuries did all the strength leave his limbs, leaving him paralyzed on the rocky ground.
