Raymond looked as though he had aged a decade overnight, utterly drained of life.
Just yesterday morning, he had been eating breakfast with his son. Now, everything was ruined.
Harold scoffed coldly. "If you had partnered with me earlier, you might have saved your son. Now, I'd say his chances are slim to none."
Raymond still didn't believe Lydia was responsible. She had no motive for such an extreme move.
He remained convinced that Harold, desperate after Lucas had been ruined, was just lashing out at Lydia. But Harold's next words stopped him cold. "I've done some digging. Lydia and Nelson were never even married, which is why Nelson won't back her a hundred percent. I bet the kid was just an accident. Lydia is only using the child to secure her foothold in the Saint family. Knowing her position as heir isn't solid, she panicked and started eliminating her rivals. Cassidy goes missing, now Hunter vanishes, and Lucas is forced into exile. The only one left standing is Lydia."
So even if Lydia performed poorly in the top spot, the Thorne family would have no other options. Unless they picked a random relative to take over, but an outsider wouldn't bear the Thorne name.
The two men exchanged a knowing look. It seemed an alliance was on the horizon.

Ever since Juniper had been brought back, she hadn't said a single word.
Nelson sat by her side in heavy silence.
It wasn't until noon, as he reached out to check her temperature, that he finally couldn't hold back anymore. "Did you drop out of school back then because of my mother?"
Her hearing aid had been recovered. She knew exactly what he was asking, but she didn't answer.
Nelson absolutely despised this silent treatment. He grabbed her by the shoulders. "Was it Beatrice Lane who sent you to Blackwood Institute?"
Her eyelashes finally fluttered, and she lifted her gaze to meet his.
The light in Nelson's eyes was incredibly dim, as if he were violently suppressing a surge of volatile emotion.
She blinked. "And if I said it was your mother, Yvonne?"
His hands, which had been gripping her shoulders, slowly released their hold. For a moment, he seemed entirely at a loss for words.
Juniper lowered her gaze, feeling no rush to push him for an answer.
