He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1105

"What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

Julian practically dropped his bags and rushed to her side, his voice laced with intense panic.

The second Scarlett saw him, she threw herself into his arms without a second thought. The floodgates opened, and her tears spilled over like broken pearls, soaking right through the fabric of his shirt.

Having him there only made her cry harder.

Julian went rigid. Assuming something catastrophic had happened while he was gone, he immediately wrapped his arms around her, gently rubbing her back to soothe her. He grabbed a handful of tissues from a nearby box and began carefully wiping her face.

"Scarlett, don't cry. Just tell me what happened."

"You're not a crier. Did something happen just now?"

Scarlett buried her face against his chest. It took her a long time to finally steady her breathing.

She looked up at him, wiping the corner of her eye, her voice choked with sobs. "I... I just feel like my brother's life is so painfully hard."

Julian frowned, bewildered. "Where is this coming from all of a sudden?"

With red-rimmed eyes and a trembling voice, Scarlett explained. "Zachary didn't have his curtains drawn. He probably thought the glass was tinted and no one could see inside. So... I watched him take off his prosthetic legs. I saw the whole thing..."

Julian visibly tensed. "Was it really that difficult to watch? Is that why you're so upset?"

Scarlett nodded emphatically.

"It's grueling. It's so much worse than I ever imagined."

"Julian, why did God have to be so cruel? Why did my brother have to lose his legs? Why did this have to happen to him..."
