Julian froze and immediately turned around.
His attention had been so entirely focused on Juno that he hadn't spared a single glance at Scarlett's expression.
Now, staring at her icy, unyielding face, his heart violently dropped.
What was wrong with her?
Was she angry because he had prioritized comforting his cousin and neglected her feelings?
Scarlett stood rigidly in place.
The soft, loving warmth that usually filled her eyes was completely gone, replaced by a chilling layer of distance and hostility.
All the bitterness and suffocating injustice she had swallowed down were finally boiling over.
Her breathing grew heavy.
Panic gripping his chest, Julian quickly closed the distance between them, instinctively softening his voice.
"Scarlett, what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
Scarlett stared straight into his eyes and asked coldly, "Julian, did you mean what you just said?"
Julian blinked, confused. "Said about what?"
"When you said there was a massive age gap between Juno and my brother. When you said they were incompatible, and that she would find a better, 'perfectly matched' marriage."
Scarlett fought to keep her voice steady, but a slight tremor betrayed her fury. "So, in your eyes, my brother simply isn't good enough for Juno. Right? You look down on him. You think because he has a physical disability, he's beneath her..."
As she spoke, her voice escalated, her eyes flushing with a furious, defensive red.
Scarlett was fiercely protective of her own. If it were about her, the sky could fall and she wouldn't shed a single tear.
But when it came to her family, she was incredibly fragile.
