The moment Stellan finished speaking, the distinct sound of footsteps approached on the narrow path.
Scarlett had learned to pick up on the subtle differences between Zachary's gait and a normal person's. She knew instantly it was him.
She turned around and saw Zachary walking ahead, one hand tucked casually in his pocket, looking every bit the cold, untouchable executive.
Right behind him, Juno was practically skipping, a fluffy white bunny cradled in her arms and a massive grin plastered across her face.
The second she spotted Scarlett, Juno ran over, bubbling with excitement.
"Scarlett, look! Zachary caught this bunny for me with his slingshot!"
"This little guy is so fast! If Zachary hadn't hit its leg, we never would have caught it! Look at it, isn't it the cutest thing ever?"
"Zachary said he was going to roast it! No way! It's too cute, we absolutely cannot eat it! I'm taking it home and putting it in my backyard!"
Juno chirped non-stop, radiating the innocent energy of a child who had never been told 'no.'
Scarlett couldn't help but smile. "It is a bit cruel to eat it. If you want to keep it, you should. But... are your parents going to be okay with that? You know they're infamous neat freaks."
Juno's face immediately fell into a pout. "What should I do then? They probably won't let me keep it, but it's so cute. I really want to take it home."
Scarlett's eyes twinkled with an idea. "You could ask my mom to keep it for you at the Magnolia Villa. You can visit whenever you want. She loves animals anyway; her yard is already full of them."
Juno's eyes instantly lit up. "Oh my gosh, you're right! Why didn't I think of that? Perfect, I'll let Jacqueline take care of it for me!"
