Scarlett turned around coldly.
She saw Sylvia standing pitifully at the entrance of the cafeteria, wearing light pink loungewear with her long hair draped over her shoulders. A black mask covered her face, revealing only her large, swollen eyes.
Sylvia noticed the food spread across the table.
It was from The Michelin-starred private kitchen, the most expensive spot in Bay City. She recognized it instantly.
A massive wave of jealousy consumed her. Sylvia rushed forward and grabbed Yardley's arm right in front of Scarlett, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Yardley, I finally got Caleb to sleep. I am so hungry, I haven't even had dinner yet."
Scarlett watched Yardley quietly. The mocking smirk on her lips felt like a physical blow to him.
He took a deep breath, gently pushed Sylvia's hand away, and instinctively moved to stand beside Scarlett, his tone flat.
"If you haven't eaten, order some takeout. Or, if you don't mind, there is plenty of food left here."
Sylvia's eyes widened in utter disbelief. She pointed a finger right at Scarlett, her voice rising uncontrollably.
"Yardley, are you telling me to eat her leftovers?"
"You know I have never eaten anyone's leftovers in my entire life! Order me a fresh meal right now. I want exactly the same thing!"
Yardley stood there with cold eyes and simply shook his head.
"You have your own phone. You can order whatever you want."
"From now on, stop expecting me to take care of everything for you. You are a married woman, Sylvia."
Scarlett stood silently, watching the dramatic shifts on Sylvia's face, waiting to see what she would do next.
Sure enough, the very next second, Sylvia burst into loud sobs. Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum when she didn't get her way, she lunged forward and grabbed Yardley's hand again.
"Yardley, you have told me since we were kids that I could always depend on you."
"Yes, I have a phone, but Scarlett has a phone too! Why did you order food for her but not for me? Yardley, you always used to put me first!"
Yardley's gaze turned even colder.
"As you said, that was in the past. But now, I have my own family. Do you understand?"
"Must be hard holding back, huh?"
"Seeing your precious cousin crying her heart out, aren't you going to rush over and comfort her?"
Yardley caught the sarcasm dripping from Scarlett's words and gently squeezed the back of her hand.
"Let her process it on her own. Come on, I will walk you back to the room."
"You get a good night's sleep tonight. I will stay up with Dawn. I promise you, even if it rains knives, I won't step a foot away from her."
Scarlett firmly rejected him.
"Forget it. Your cold isn't gone yet. You can't be near her."
But Yardley seemed completely determined this time.
"My cold is practically gone. If you don't believe me, I will go get the doctor to run a rush test on me right now."
Before Scarlett could even say a word, Yardley had already sprinted off to find a doctor.
