Scarlett turned around and headed back to the hospital room. Dawn and Zara were already sound asleep.
She completely dismissed Yardley's promise, lying down on her bed and drifting into a deep sleep shortly after.
Late into the night.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but Scarlett vaguely felt a comforting weight settle over her as someone gently draped a blanket over her body.
It was the longest and most peaceful sleep she had gotten since arriving at the hospital, mainly because she barely heard Dawn cry all night.
Meanwhile, in the adjacent room.
Sylvia couldn't sleep at all. She lay in the visitor's bed, tossing and turning all night, occasionally bursting into tears until her face was stained with sorrow.
Gwen couldn't handle staying up and had gone home, hiring a private nurse for Sylvia at the last minute.
Corinne had originally promised to come, but something came up at home, so she never showed up.
That night, only Sylvia and the private nurse watched over Caleb.
The sedatives in Caleb's system had mostly worn off, but it made him incredibly fussy and prone to crying. His restless sleeping only grated on Sylvia's already frayed nerves.
She sneaked over to Scarlett's daughter's room several times.
Every time she looked, she saw Yardley holding his daughter, pacing the room and whispering softly to soothe her, while Scarlett slept peacefully on her bed. Sylvia felt as if a knife were twisting violently in her heart, drawing fresh blood with every breath.
Multiple times, she had to physically restrain herself from barging into the room and dragging Yardley out.
But this time, she held herself back.
She wasn't that stupid. She knew if she rushed in and made Yardley despise her even more, he would undoubtedly keep his distance and sever ties with her permanently.
She had no idea what Scarlett had done to make Yardley's attitude flip so completely. Panic set in. She felt overwhelmingly lost, as if everyone had suddenly abandoned her on a deserted island.
She desperately needed comfort and reassurance.
In the middle of the night, she sent a text to Julian, carefully asking if he had arrived in Country A.
"What 'live peacefully as a family of three'? Live peacefully, my ass! Just looking at her makes me sick to my stomach! I can't wait for her to get the hell out of The Flynn family once and for all! Live peacefully? Bullshit!"
"Have you lost your mind? Why would you say something so pathetic?"
Corinne was so furious the veins in her temples were throbbing.
She had been fuming the entire drive over, planning to discuss their next move with Sylvia.
She never expected Sylvia to have suffered some sort of breakdown, turning into a spineless jellyfish overnight.
It infuriated her beyond belief!
Especially when she thought about what Franklin had said to her last night, the fire in Corinne's chest blazed even hotter!
"I will make Scarlett divorce my son! I will make sure she rots!"
Corinne's eyes shot absolute fury mixed with pure, venomous hatred, terrifying Sylvia so much that her crying stopped dead.
