Scarlett had no idea where Sylvia had found these thugs, but they were reckless and utterly barbaric.
The moment they stepped into the living room, they began flipping over the delicate antique tea sets, expensive porcelain vases, and beautifully carved wooden chairs.
The sickening sound of shattering ceramics and snapping wood echoed through the house.
Scarlett gasped, covering her mouth in horror, and instinctively rushed forward to stop them. But the damage was already done.
"Are you crazy?!" Scarlett yelled. "These are an old woman's lifelong collections! Stop it! Sylvia, tell them to stop!"
Sylvia's eyes gleamed with manic glee. Instead of stopping them, she picked up a stunning enamel vase from a side table and smashed it violently against the hardwood floor.
"Smash it! Smash everything!"
"If Julian dares to betray me and hide his little mistress here, I'll show him that Sylvia Stetson isn't someone you mess with!"
With her hair flying wildly, Sylvia looked completely unhinged.
Watching these rare, irreplaceable antiques and meticulously cared-for plants being destroyed drove Scarlett frantic.
She rushed forward again, trying to physically block them. But the punk leading the group sneered and shoved her hard in the chest.
Losing her balance, Scarlett stumbled backward.
She was right at the edge of the wooden staircase. Realizing she was about to fall backward and crack her head open, she let out a cry of panic and squeezed her eyes shut.
But the painful impact never came.
Instead, she collided with a broad, warm chest that smelled faintly of freesia. A strong hand wrapped firmly around her waist, steadying her effortlessly.
Scarlett opened her eyes. The man holding her had a jawline sharp enough to cut glass, his handsome face tight with fury.
His usually calm eyes were blazing with an intensity that could scorch the earth.
His smooth, deep voice sounded just above her ear. "Are you okay?"
Scarlett quickly regained her footing and shook her head. "I'm fine, but your grandmother's house..."
She let out a devastated sigh. A second later, the man brushed past her like a hurricane.
Julian strode straight toward Sylvia, his hand shooting out to grip her violently by the collar, his eyes practically spitting fire.
