*You can't hit a woman...* The thought surfaced sharply in his mind.
Ultimately, Yardley held himself back.
Furious, he got up, walked over to the window, and reached for a cigarette. But before he could even light it, Veronica charged over, snatched it out of his hand, and stomped on it viciously.
"I don't care, Yardley! You have to arrange a drone show for me too! And it has to be bigger and better than whatever Julian did for Scarlett!" Her eyes were wild with jealousy. "I want everyone to know that I'm happier than her! I refuse to lose to that bitch!"
Looking at her eyes, crazed with envy, Yardley couldn't suppress a shudder.
In that very moment, the realization hit him harder than ever: *one wrong step, and everything is lost.*
He looked at her with sheer exhaustion. Suddenly, he felt that if he stayed in this room a second longer, he would suffocate.
"There's an emergency at the company. I'm heading back to Bay City."
Before she could process what he said, he spun on his heel and strode out. He moved fast. By the time Veronica snapped out of it and chased him downstairs, he had already started the Maybach and shot out of the Thorne estate like a rocket.
Veronica stamped her feet in a fit of rage.
Meanwhile, Yardley drove straight to the highway entrance before finally letting out a long, heavy sigh of relief. He massaged his temples, forcefully reminding himself:
*Endure it. Just endure it for a little while longer.*
Once his two sisters were bailed out and the Flynn Group was back on its feet... there was no way he would keep a woman like Veronica around.
