He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 925

"Scarlett, did you want to—"

Before he could even finish the sentence, her urgent voice cut him off.

"Yardley, do you have the contact information for the supervisor at your tourism town project?"

The surge of emotion welling up inside him instantly died in his throat. Gripping the steering wheel, he froze for several seconds before he could manage to speak. "I don't have it on me, but I can get it. Why?"

Given the emergency, she didn't have time for pleasantries. "Julian's grandmother—my former high school teacher, Madeleine Dawson—is there right now. I heard she's in a massive confrontation with your construction crew over the digging."

"She's an elderly woman, and she's sick. We're terrified for her safety." She took a quick breath and pushed on. "Please, contact your supervisor immediately and tell them to wait until we arrive. Whatever they do, they cannot lay a hand on her, or I swear we will not let this go!"

Her tone was stern and righteous, but she was met with a long, deafening silence on the other end of the line.

Yardley sat there gripping his phone, his emotions on a violent roller coaster. He barely registered half of what she had said. The only words that echoed in his mind were *Julian*.

So... she wasn't calling him in the middle of the night out of regret. She wasn't reminiscing about their past. She was just terrified for the safety of Julian's family member.

Did she really not care about what they used to have, even a little bit?

How wonderful of a night had she and Julian just shared?

His knuckles turned white as he gripped the phone tighter, a bitter, sour jealousy churning in his gut. He had harbored a tiny, pathetic shred of hope that she might have called out of lingering affection, but reality had just dumped a bucket of ice water over his head.

After a long silence, he finally replied coldly, "Sorry, Scarlett. I can't help you."
