He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 370

"And yes, our family's reputation and our brother's dignity matter, but this was the only way to utterly destroy Scarlett's!"

"Just wait. Once the media blasts this everywhere, Scarlett will be public enemy number one. She won't be able to show her face in Bay City ever again!"

Melanie's face was twisted with arrogant glee. She was practically salivating at the thought of Scarlett being treated like a rat in the streets.

Sylvia smiled and high-fived her. "Exactly, Clarissa. You can't be afraid to pull the trigger. We did this to help Yardley. Otherwise, he would still be blinded by her, refusing to finalize the divorce, letting her drag him down until he's ruined."

Sylvia looked at Yardley sympathetically. "Honestly, Yardley has looked so haggard lately. I just couldn't bear to see him suffer anymore."

Hearing this, Clarissa looked at her brother with a pang of pity. She had a million things she wanted to yell, but the damage was done. She swallowed her words.

However, she absolutely refused to believe the child was illegitimate.

When Yardley was born, Clarissa had stayed with Corinne Quinn through her entire postpartum recovery. She remembered exactly what Yardley looked like as a baby—and Dawn was a carbon copy.

Furthermore, when Clarissa had bought an insurance policy for the baby, she had pulled her birth records. The baby's blood type was B—the exact same as hers and Yardley's.

Seeing Yardley drag his exhausted body away, Melanie hurried after him. She opened the passenger door of his car and got in.

"That child's blood type is B, just like yours," Clarissa said as they got in the car. "Are you absolutely certain that DNA test was real?"

"Yardley... this is massive. You didn't do the test yourself? You just took their word for it? What if they're wrong? Did you even consider the consequences?" Clarissa asked, her voice laced with disbelief.

"I called the testing center. The staff confirmed the report was authentic... But... tonight was reckless. If this is a mistake, my daughter will hate me for the rest of her life, and Scarlett... will never forgive me."

Yardley squeezed his eyes shut and slumped back against the seat, thoroughly defeated.

Clarissa patted his shoulder.

"You've been completely blinded by anger lately. Your actions are so beneath your usual standards, even I don't recognize you. Yardley, you really need to sit down and figure out what you want. Are you trying to save this marriage, or are you trying to escape it?"
