The more Yardley thought about it, the more wrong it felt.
The swifter and more absolute Scarlett's confession had been, the more panicked his heart became.
This was the woman he had shared a bed with for five years. He knew her fierce pride and uncompromising nature better than anyone.
A woman who valued her dignity that much would never stand in front of dozens of cameras and openly admit to cheating on her husband and having an illegitimate child.
Unless...
If Scarlett was innocent, then someone had set him up. What if that paternity report was entirely forged?!
The thought made his eyes turn terrifyingly dark as he glared at Sylvia.
Scarlett's admission hadn't brought him any relief; it had wound him up to the absolute breaking point.
He spun around and grabbed Sylvia's throat, his grip lethal.
Sylvia choked, her face turning a violent shade of purple. She clawed frantically at his arm, barely squeezing out broken syllables. "Y-Yardley... l-let go..."
Seeing this, Melanie screamed in panic and rushed over, desperately prying his fingers apart. He finally seemed to snap out of it and let go.
Breathing heavily in shock, Melanie shouted angrily, "Are you insane, Yardley?! Can't you tell friend from foe anymore?!"
"Scarlett admitted it! She admitted she cheated on you and had a bastard daughter!"
"I'm begging you, face reality! Stop fighting the family who actually loves you for the sake of that bitch, okay?!"
It was Clarissa Flynn.
She had heard the breaking news on the radio while driving home. Furious, she had sped back to stop them from making this colossal mistake, but she was too late.
By the time she arrived, the statement had been made, and the damage was irreversible.
Clarissa was so enraged by her family's sheer stupidity she stamped her foot, her chest heaving as she yelled at them.
Melanie just laughed dismissively. "Clarissa, there you go with your bleeding heart again! Scarlett sent our mother to jail! If we show her any mercy, we're just being cruel to ourselves!"
"Stop being so indecisive. That kid isn't a Flynn. Who cares if she's traumatized later? It's none of your business!"
