A nurse stepped out wearing a mask, holding a clipboard.
"Family of Dawn Langley? The child had a febrile seizure. She needs to be admitted immediately and requires a head CT to rule out complications. I need a guardian to sign here."
The air instantly solidified.
Scarlett stood rooted to the spot, her face ashen. At the words 'febrile seizure,' the room spun, and her knees buckled.
Thankfully, Julian had been standing right beside her. He caught her securely before she could hit the floor.
Before anyone else could react, Yardley lunged forward, snatching the clipboard from the nurse.
"I'm her father. I'll sign."
"Tell the doctor I am Yardley Flynn, CEO of the Flynn Group. I want my daughter given the most comprehensive exams, the best treatment, and top-tier medication!"
"I'm covering all expenses! Put her in the absolute best VIP suite available!" he rattled off as he scrawled his signature across the form.
He might not be able to control Scarlett anymore, but saying the words "I am her father" out loud triggered something in him.
He suddenly realized that both the law and biology granted him the undeniable right to make medical decisions for his child.
As long as he was her biological father, no one could strip that right away from him—not even a judge.
Empowered by this realization, a new wave of confidence washed over him.
"Yardley!"
Unable to hold back her absolute fury, Scarlett lunged forward to rip the clipboard from his hands.
"Stop playing the hero! Her last name is Langley! She's our child! We don't need your hypocritical grandstanding!"
He sidestepped her, his knuckles white as he gripped the paperwork.
"I am her biological father! I have every legal and moral right to sign this!"
"I've made my decision. From today onward, I am asserting all my rights over my daughter. I will never let you make all the decisions on your own again!"
"Whether you like it or not, she isn't just yours. I get a say in her life."
