Truthfully, Yardley wasn't inherently evil. He had his strengths and redeeming qualities. But his blinding arrogance made him incapable of seeing his own flaws, and his toxic family had only dragged him further into the mud.
Despite everything they had been through, and even though she no longer loved him, she had never truly wanted to see him completely destroyed. At the end of the day, he was still Dawn's father. She couldn't erase that fact. She wasn't the kind of woman who, upon finding her own happiness, felt the need to salt the earth and burn every bridge to the ground.
If he could genuinely recognize his mistakes and change, she would be willing to let him have a relationship with their daughter in the future.
But she kept those thoughts to herself. She certainly wasn't going to show him any softness right now.
Hearing her question, Yardley's face contorted in humiliation. His hands clenched into tight fists, his expression plunging into absolute darkness. Perhaps feeling that she had stripped away his final layer of armor, he turned his back to them.
Assuming he was refusing to answer, Scarlett glanced at Julian. They turned to leave.
But just as they reached the door, his low, strained voice echoed through the room.
"If that's how you want to see it... fine. I accept it." His voice trembled with the sheer weight of what he was admitting. "Even if... even if it means I have to beg you. Help me this one time. Tell me what I need to do to save my company from being destroyed by her."
