Inside the hospital suite.
Scarlett and Julian had just gotten Dawn settled when Dr. Daniel arrived from Country A.
Dawn was immediately subjected to a battery of tests.
Perhaps terrified by the unfamiliar environment, the baby cried relentlessly through the entire process.
Once the tests were finally over, Scarlett was completely drained. She collapsed into a recliner and unwittingly fell fast asleep.
After ending the call, Julian noticed her sleeping. He quietly slipped off his suit jacket and draped it gently over her.
He walked out to the main gates alone and found Yardley leaning against the hood of the black Bentley, smoking.
Several crushed cigarette butts already littered the ground.
Seeing Julian approach, Yardley shot him an icy glare.
"I never realized you enjoyed playing the parasite so much. Wherever Scarlett goes, you follow."
Julian's expression remained perfectly composed, letting out a cool scoff.
"I don't 'follow' her. She needs me right now. I am choosing to stay by her side to protect her. Save your sarcastic remarks."
Yardley lifted his chin, instantly firing back.
"I used to think you had some sense of honor. I didn't expect you to be so eager to play the other man!"
Julian barely batted an eye. "Your marriage has been dead in the water for a long time, Yardley."
"She's utterly exhausted, and with Dawn's condition right now, if you actually cared about her—even a fraction of an ounce—you would let her go. What is the point of this pathetic stalking?"
Hit right in his most vulnerable spot, Yardley ground his teeth.
He sneered.
"I heard Scarlett has been buying your intimate clothing. Are the two of you really parading your affair around this shamelessly?"
Yardley narrowed his eyes.
Yardley's eyes darkened drastically.
"What the hell do you know? Stop acting so damn self-righteous!"
How could it just be possessiveness and control?
He truly couldn't bear to lose her. It was genuine love.
He had only realized the sheer magnitude of his love and desperation after she actually walked away.
Because he loved her so deeply, he wanted her entirely to himself.
Because he cared, he tolerated her rebellions and her attacks on his family time and time again, desperately trying to salvage things.
Julian understood absolutely nothing about his heart.
Just as Yardley opened his mouth to retort, Julian stepped even closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous baritone.
"Are you still too blind to see it? You don't matter to her anymore. She has already moved on, and she has zero desire to ever be with you again."
