Sylvia Stetson’s obsession with Yardley Flynn had never wavered. Even now, with her leverage dwindling by the day, her fixation on him only grew more desperate. She had always been so certain that once he and Scarlett Langley finalized their divorce, she would be the one to take her place. After all, they had history. They knew everything about each other. They had both survived failed marriages. With the Schmidt family now backing her, the moral judgment of the public wouldn’t even be a factor. Plus, his mother, Corinne Quinn, had always favored her—sometimes treating her better than her own daughter. Sylvia believed it was only a matter of time before she seamlessly slid into the role of his wife.
But she never anticipated Veronica Thorne entering the picture.
Watching the bashful flush on Veronica’s cheeks and hearing the audacious words she had just spoken, Sylvia felt like she was losing her mind. She wanted to stomp her feet, march right up to the woman, and demand she drop these delusional fantasies.
Before she could, Melanie Flynn shot her a warning glare. "Why is it impossible? Tell me one area where Veronica isn’t leagues above Scarlett? She’s got the background, the competence, the looks, the body..."
Melanie spared no effort in hyping up Veronica, while subtly shooting pointed looks at Sylvia. "If my brother really goes through with this divorce, he and Veronica would make a real power couple. It’s just that right now, he’s still caught up in his feelings for that woman and the kid. He’s being completely stubborn."
She turned her attention back to Veronica. "If you can actually find a way to make him cut ties with those two—and keep him from losing half his assets in the divorce—the entire Flynn family would owe you a massive favor."
