He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 471

It was a faint, sun-drenched scent of gardenias, her favorite fragrance during her pregnancy.

Looking up, she noticed a row of freshly bloomed white potted gardenias lined up on the hospital window sill.

Dazed, Scarlett instinctively looked back at Julian.

He cleared his throat lightly and said in a calm voice, "I was worried you wouldn't be used to the clinical smell of the hospital. I happened to see these at the florist downstairs, so I picked up a few."

He paused, then added, "I looked it up. The scent of gardenias is supposed to be soothing."

Scarlett's heart gave a gentle flutter.

She hadn't expected Julian to be such a thoughtful man.

Ever since giving birth to Dawn, her world had seemingly shrunk down to formula, diapers, the sound of a crying baby, and the endless, exhausting drama with Yardley and the entire Flynn family.

She had almost forgotten everything beautiful, forgotten that she used to be just an ordinary woman who loved growing flowers and finding peace in nature.

A flicker of genuine emotion crossed Scarlett's eyes, and her voice softened. "That's incredibly sweet of you, Julian."

Julian smiled faintly. He gripped the handles of her movable bed and smoothly wheeled it to the center of the VIP suite.

"You rest up first. I picked up some groceries. There's a private kitchen here, so I'm going to cook you a hot meal to help you recover. I'll wake you when it's ready."

With those instructions, he turned and walked toward the kitchenette, his back straight and dependable.

Scarlett leaned against the soft pillows, her gaze resting on the pristine white blossoms. With the elegant fragrance wafting through the air, her tightly strung nerves finally began to unravel.

Like a ship that had been tossed in a storm for far too long finally finding safe harbor, she closed her eyes and drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.

Sometime later, she heard someone calling her name in low, urgent voices.

"Scarlett... Scarlett..."

She groggily opened her eyes, only to be met with the deeply anxious faces of her mother, Jacqueline Langley, and Julian's mother, Elara Chapman.
