He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 482

Julian smiled, gently squeezing her shoulder. His tone was warm but firm.

"Hey, don't overthink this. Our number one priority right now is being here for Dawn to help her fight this battle. Irvin and I have the studio covered. You don't need to worry about a thing."

Scarlett opened her mouth to speak, but a wave of silent gratitude washed over her, leaving her utterly speechless.

As their eyes met, for a fleeting second, she caught a glimmer in his gaze—a look that harbored an intense, suppressed emotion.

But in the blink of an eye, she convinced herself it had to be her imagination.

Her and Julian? What on earth was she thinking?

Besides, she was technically still married, and they were colleagues. Entertaining any inappropriate thoughts would only make an already messy situation ten times worse.

A knot of complex emotions tangled in her chest.

Just then, her phone rang. It was Dawn's attending physician.

Scarlett's heart leaped into her throat. Her fingers trembled uncontrollably as she swiped to answer.

"Doctor? Are the test results back? How is my daughter?"

"Ms. Langley, please come down to my office. It would be best if we discussed this in person."

*In person...* Those words almost always meant it wasn't a simple diagnosis.

Scarlett's grip on the phone tightened instantly, a cold sweat breaking out across her forehead.

Hanging up in a panic, she completely ignored her own physical exhaustion, throwing off the covers to get out of bed.

"Did the doctor ask you to go to his office?" Julian asked, concern etching his features.

Scarlett nodded, her voice tight. "Yeah. The results are in. He wants me there now."

A loud ringing filled her ears, like a thousand buzzing bees, and her vision started to go dark at the edges.

*Leukemia.* The word hit her like a ton of bricks, instantly draining every ounce of strength from her body.

She stumbled backward, but a warm, strong hand firmly supported her lower back, holding her steady.

Julian, however, sharply caught the loophole in the doctor's explanation. He interjected calmly, "Wait, that's not right. When Dr. Daniel came in, didn't he perform a further bone marrow biopsy?"

Tears were already welling in Scarlett's eyes, but Julian's words snapped her back to reality. He had hit the nail on the head.

*Exactly. Dawn had already undergone a much more precise bone marrow biopsy. Why was the doctor still talking about the initial blood work?*

Scarlett's pupils dilated as a surge of frantic anxiety washed over her.

She planted both hands on the doctor's desk, demanding desperately, "He's right! What were the results of the biopsy? Please, Doctor, just give it to us straight—the suspense is killing me!"
