He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 553

Yardley's face turned as dark as thunder.

Scarlett continued, "You like dragging things out, don't you? Well, I don't mind dragging this out with you. Let's see who breaks first. You can run yourself two billion into debt, and I can run myself four billion into the red... Let's see who drags the other down to hell. You've exhausted every last drop of my mercy."

Having made her intentions absolutely clear, she turned on her heel and walked out the door.

Yardley sat frozen in place. He felt as if he understood her words, yet simultaneously couldn't process them at all. His head was ringing, and an indescribable sense of suffocation gripped his chest.

Julian stood up to follow her, pausing briefly at the door to cast a glance back at Yardley. He opened his mouth to say something, but ultimately shook his head and walked out. Even he felt it was pointless to offer the man any further advice. It would all fall on deaf ears. Not to mention, he fully understood why Scarlett was acting this way.

She walked briskly, never once looking back. She felt as though she would suffocate if she stayed in that room a second longer.

Julian quickly caught up, stepping ahead to pull open the passenger door of his car. As she ducked inside, he naturally raised a hand to shield her head.

Sliding into the seat, Scarlett realized the car had been started remotely. The cool blast of the air conditioning quickly chased away the stifling heat that had built up in her chest. She sank deep into the plush leather, letting out a long, shaky breath.

Getting into the driver's seat, Julian pulled a small mango mousse from the car's mini-fridge like a magician and offered it to her.

"When you're in a bad mood, something sweet always helps."
