Hearing the dial tone on the other end of the line, Scarlett and Julian exchanged a helpless look.
"Let's go, sweetheart," Julian said. "We should head over to Flynn Group and see exactly what Yardley wants to talk to you about."
Scarlett nodded. Giving up on the idea of an afternoon nap, she went to her walk-in closet and changed into a neatly tailored, lilac maxi dress. She had bought it during a shopping trip with Elara; it was a completely new style for her, emphasizing a refined, elegant sophistication.
Her hair had grown quite a bit recently, so she swept it up into a clean, classic updo and applied some light makeup. Standing before the mirror, even she was taken aback by her own reflection.
In the past, she had been so buried in work that she never had a moment to appreciate her own beauty. But ever since marrying Julian, everything seemed to have gradually slowed down.
The responsibility of looking after Dawn had been enthusiastically absorbed by Elara and Jacqueline. The two grandmothers competed for the little girl's attention every day, leaving her own mother with practically nothing to do.
As for her career, most of the day-to-day tasks were handled by her team. Julian was naturally gifted at strategic planning, and with him steering the big picture alongside a mature, self-sufficient team running the operations, Scarlett found she no longer had to fight tooth and nail to balance her work and personal life.
Whether at home or at the office, she was perfectly cared for. Naturally, that left her with more time and energy to invest in herself.
It hit her then—the partner a woman chose truly dictated the life she would lead. Marrying the right man made all the difference in the world.
