Julian cupped her face, gently wiping away a stray tear. "Alright, no crying, honey. Isn't treating my wife well just the bare minimum? This is only the beginning. You'll see."
Looking up at his handsome, devoted face, Scarlett let out a soft, bashful agreement, feeling entirely melted from the inside out.
They took the car to the Flynn Group tower.
As the stretch Lincoln pulled up directly in front of the main lobby, Sylvia Stetson happened to be standing inside, chatting with a female coworker. Yardley hadn't been able to cut her off completely; instead, he had given her a position as a designer. Now, Sylvia showed up every day in professional attire, arriving on time and leaving on time—but she barely did any actual work. All her energy was focused on networking.
Having hit several major roadblocks recently, Sylvia understood better than anyone that she had very few chips left to play. Her only chance at survival was clinging to whatever lingering pity Yardley had for her. So, she was determined to make an impression at the company.
Even though Yardley was legally married to Veronica, Sylvia knew their union was purely transactional. Plus, Veronica had manipulated him. A proud man like Yardley wouldn't tolerate being used by Thorne Industries forever; a divorce was inevitable. And once that happened, with her history, she was sure to be next in line.
Sylvia had it all figured out: becoming Mrs. Flynn was her final shot at turning her life around. That was why she was focused on playing the game, building connections, and establishing herself as a central figure at the company, laying the groundwork for her eventual rise.
She was in the middle of exchanging skincare tips when her coworker suddenly gasped, pointing outside. "Oh my god! Is that a stretch Lincoln? There are barely any of those in Bay City, and that's the newest model!"
Sylvia followed her gaze.
When she looked, she saw Julian—tall, striking, and dressed impeccably in a bespoke suit—stepping out of the car. He turned and chivalrously helped a woman out. The woman was dripping with quiet elegance, glowing like royalty.
