Scarlett stood in the doorway, quietly watching him work. A subtle, unfamiliar warmth began to blossom in her chest.
Ding! Ding!
Suddenly, two consecutive notifications popped up from her long-dormant Slack app.
Pulling out her phone, her expression hardened instantly when she saw the messages were from Clarissa. It was the corporate app she used back when she worked at Flynn Group, which she had forgotten to delete. She had blocked Clarissa's number long ago, yet here she was, circumventing the block.
Just reading Clarissa's accusatory message left Scarlett intensely annoyed. When she clicked on the video and saw Melanie and Sylvia bawling in Corinne's arms—with Veronica standing right beside them—her face turned ice-cold.
Veronica was the one who had pulled strings to save them the first time. Clearly, she had used her connections to bail them out again. Treating Sylvia like Yardley's precious cousin was a bold move. Scarlett couldn't help but wonder if Veronica would remain so fiercely loyal if she ever found out about the murky, inappropriate undertones between Sylvia and Yardley.
Scarlett's eyes narrowed.
Noticing her staring intensely at her phone, Julian stepped closer. "What are you looking at, Scarlett?"
She opened the video and handed it to him. "Veronica pulled some strings and got them out again. But judging by the looks of it, they went through hell in there."
Julian nodded. "We didn't even have to lift a finger. The wealthy parents of the kids they dragged down weren't going to let them off easy. But knowing their personalities, they'll undoubtedly blame you for it."
