Sylvia refused to accept defeat.
It was time to play her trump card.
Standing by the shattered remains of her floor-to-ceiling windows, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
The line connected almost instantly, and a gruff, slightly sleazy male voice boomed through the speaker.
“Well, well. It’s not every day my darling reaches out to me.”
Sylvia forced her revulsion down, keeping her tone light. “How’s our boy doing? Is he settling in okay?”
“He’s doing fantastic!” Kane Stetson let out a booming laugh. “I’ve hired three nannies just for him. He gets the best formula on the market, and all his toys and clothes are top-tier designer brands!”
“I gotta say, Sylvia, I never expected you to give me such a healthy, strapping son! Just name your price. Whatever you need, I’ll pluck the stars from the sky for you!”
The man on the other end was Kane, the man whose very existence made Sylvia’s skin crawl.
After her divorce, she had realized that keeping a child would completely ruin her chances of securing a lucrative second marriage. So, she quietly contacted Kane, confessed the boy was his, and told him to come get him.
Kane had been a bachelor his entire life. Having a son drop right into his lap was a dream come true. After a DNA test confirmed paternity, he was ecstatic and immediately whisked the boy away to live with him in secret.
He had offered to let Sylvia live with him too, but she despised him and wanted a clean break.
