Scarlett blinked, then smiled, deciding to play along. "You're the second-best brother in the world!"
A low, amused voice came from the phone. "Julian's been putting in all this work, and he's still just a 'brother'?"
The comment made Scarlett's heart skip a beat. Feeling a bit flushed, she replied, "If not a brother, then what?"
Julian merely smirked, shrugging at the camera. He offered a knowing look. "A good soup needs to simmer. The longer it cooks, the better it tastes. No rush."
Zachary laughed on the other end. "Don't let it simmer too long, or it'll burn to the bottom of the pot."
Scarlett wasn't dense; she caught the underlying meaning and felt her cheeks heat up. "What are you two even talking about? I don't get it."
"I'm just reminding someone to pick up the pace before the prize walks away," Zachary teased.
Julian chuckled. "Message received. Thanks for the tip, my dear brother-in-law."
Though framed as a joke, the intent was crystal clear. Scarlett would have to be an idiot not to understand.
Her face burned crimson. "You guys... stop messing with me! Zach, you're impossible!"
Zachary's laughter grew louder, his usually brooding features softening into a warm, bright smile. "Alright, alright, I'll stop teasing. I've got to run. As soon as I wrap things up here, I'll head back."
"Okay. See you soon."
She hung up and inadvertently caught Julian's gaze. His eyes were soft and warm, lacking any sort of pressure. The absolute adoration and patience reflected in them made Scarlett's tense nerves magically relax.
