"If you help me just this once, I promise I'll help you lock Yardley down. I know you're crazy about him."
Veronica let out an arrogant little laugh. "Sylvia, I haven't fallen so low that I need another woman’s help to bag a man. I'm more than confident in my own charms."
Sylvia tapped her fingers against the steering wheel. "You might be able to charm my cousin, but that doesn't mean you can win over the whole family. But I can make that happen."
"Look, Aunt Corinne has three daughters of her own, but I grew up in that house. She adores me more than any of her actual girls. My word goes a long way with her."
Sylvia’s tone dripped with supreme confidence. "If I hadn't despised Scarlett from day one, if I hadn't made it my mission to end their marriage, they never would have divorced. So, if you want Yardley, you need to get through me first."
Veronica narrowed her eyes at the phone. It was an incredibly bold claim.
At the end of the day, Sylvia was just a cousin. Where was she getting the nerve to speak like she controlled the Flynn dynasty? And was she seriously claiming that the explosive, highly publicized divorce between Scarlett and Yardley was entirely her doing?
Veronica absolutely loathed people who acted arrogant and disrespectful. She was used to being the undisputed queen bee, and anyone challenging her authority rubbed her the wrong way.
She let out a sharp sneer. "Honestly, Sylvia? Even Melanie wouldn't dare speak to me like that, and she's actually his sister. You're just a cousin."
"If you’re begging for a favor, you need to learn your place. With that kind of attitude, you can forget about my help."
Sylvia had been bluffing, trying to establish dominance, but she severely underestimated Veronica's intelligence. Realizing Veronica was about to hang up, Sylvia instantly panicked.
