Yardley had only shown his face at the hospital out of obligation. Having checked the box, he turned on his heel and walked out.
Sylvia immediately chased after him, trailing him all the way to the parking lot. "Yardley, wait—"
Yardley slid into the driver's seat and looked up at her, his expression unreadable. "What is it?"
"Are you... are you okay?" she asked softly, panting slightly. "Do you want me to keep you company?"
"We could go somewhere to clear your head. I know a really beautiful spot not far from here. It's so relaxing, we could just—"
"Did you not hear what I said inside?" Yardley cut her off coldly. "I have business to take care of."
Sylvia had heard him perfectly well. She knew his "business" was signing the massive contract with Thorne Industries.
She absolutely hated the idea of him partnering with Veronica Thorne. But she also knew that, logically, aligning with the Thorne family was the smartest move for the Flynn Group right now. She couldn't stop it, but it made her physically sick to think of handing him over to another woman.
"Then... can I come with you to the office?" she pleaded.
Before Yardley could reject her again, she quickly added, "Clarissa mentioned that the design department is a total mess right now. Yardley, please don't forget, my degree is in architectural design. I've even won industry awards before! I know I haven't worked in a few years, but the foundation is still there."
"Instead of hiring some stranger, why not let me join the design team? I genuinely want to start working again. I want to put my head down and start from scratch."
"I just don't want you carrying the burden all by yourself. Let me help you."
Sylvia's voice trembled with earnest dedication, tears welling up perfectly in her eyes.
Yardley stared at her quietly. What she was saying actually made sense.
