Sebastian burst through the mall doors with Skye in his arms just as the paramedics pulled up to the curb.
Neither he nor Helena had the energy to fight right now.
Their only priority was keeping the child alive.
Sitting in the back of the ambulance, Helena was visibly shaking, completely consumed by panic.
Sebastian remained stone-cold, rattled off the girl's medical history to the paramedics, and then immediately dialed Dr. Solomon Lynch.
As luck would have it, Solomon was in the city for a medical conference and immediately diverted his driver to Capital Garrison Hospital.
Skye's medical file was incredibly fragile; despite the success of her previous heart surgeries, she was still a high-risk patient.
She absolutely could not endure severe emotional shock.
A massive spike in her heart rate could trigger a catastrophic failure of the repaired valves.
Furthermore, she still had one final, mandatory operation scheduled for when she turned twelve.
This was a ticking time bomb, far more dangerous than a simple panic attack.
When Solomon heard the details, he unleashed a furious string of curses through the phone.
Sebastian didn't bother defending himself; he just hung up.
The ambulance screeched to a halt outside the emergency room bays.
Helena hadn't spoken a single word the entire ride.
Her face was a horrifying shade of translucent white.
Looking at her, Sebastian felt a crushing wave of dread wash over him.
But he couldn't afford to lose his composure now.
If he crumbled, everything would truly fall apart.
A trauma team was already waiting with a gurney, rushing the unconscious child straight to the emergency operating room.
"She'll pull through. Solomon is already on his way," Sebastian murmured softly, trying to ground her.
He reached out instinctively, his fingers wrapping around her trembling hand.
She froze for a split second before violently ripping her hand away from his grasp.
He stared at his empty palm, his gaze darkening with silent pain.
After living with her for the past two months, he knew her every mood shift.
It was painfully obvious that a lethal fury was building behind her silent facade.
Still, he wisely kept his mouth shut.
This was absolutely not the time to force a confrontation.
