"Beau, please don't tell Seb about this. Wait until I tell him myself. I don't want him thinking I'm using you to pressure him. That will only make things worse for me, and we already have too many misunderstandings between us," Janetta pleaded with desperate sincerity.
After a long pause, Beau relented. "Alright."
Janetta let out a breath of relief and ended the call.
The second the line went dead, the fragile sorrow vanished from her face, replaced by an expression so dark it was terrifying. She sat in dead silence.
Meanwhile, Beau stared at his phone for a long time. Despite his promise, he eventually pulled up Sebastian's number and made the call.
Sebastian was still at the office when his phone rang.
"Why are you calling me at this hour?" Sebastian asked, glancing at his watch. It was an awkward time—too late for casual business, too early for drinks. Unless there was an emergency, Beau always scheduled their calls.
"Did something happen?" Sebastian pressed, his brow furrowing at the silence on the other end.
"Not exactly. I'm just curious. Are you really going to leave Janetta stranded abroad like this?" Beau asked evenly, keeping the medical details to himself.
"I've been seeing you and Helena plastered everywhere lately. I've probably read too many tabloids, but they almost make it look real," he added casually.
Sebastian was far too sharp to miss the implication. "Did she call you?" he demanded.
Beau didn't confirm or deny it. "She's pregnant and all alone in a foreign country. It doesn't sit right with me. Besides, she's not in good health and needs someone to take care of her. When a woman is pregnant, having a hundred nurses around doesn't compare to having the man she loves by her side, does it?"
