Sebastian Hayes didn't respond.
Beau Sterling tactfully hung up the phone.
Staring at the disconnected call, Beau stood in silence.
His expression grew increasingly unreadable.
The hands stuffed in his pockets clenched into tight fists.
He hadn't said it out loud, but he knew his feelings had shifted.
In the past, if Janetta Ramirez had pushed him like this, he would have undoubtedly rushed to her side, terrified something might happen to her.
Now, that urge was incredibly faint.
He couldn't quite explain why, but it almost felt natural.
Deep down, he knew exactly what was really occupying his thoughts.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a new notification.
[Janetta Ramirez spotted entering the hospital late at night, heavily pregnant and seemingly abandoned.]
Compared to the mildness of the Riverton press, the foreign media was far more scathing.
The news breaking across the wires showed Janetta walking in and out of the hospital completely alone.
Not only that, but the paparazzi photos captured her pale, exhausted face.
She looked incredibly weak and fragile.
Anyone seeing it would feel a pang of sympathy.
Janetta's Fans were practically exploding in the comment sections.
Since it was Riverton, they didn't dare name Sebastian and Helena Wallace directly.
But that didn't stop them from dropping thinly veiled insults using their initials.
When Sebastian saw the news, his chest tightened in painful spasms.
Janetta had always been the woman he held in the palm of his hand—when had she ever suffered such an indignity?
Right now, she looked like an abandoned kitten.
And he was the one who had thrown her out into the cold.
They had been entangled for so many years.
Carter was caught off guard. "Mrs. Hayes is very stable. The doctor said as long as she holds on, a smooth delivery shouldn't be a problem."
"I'm asking about Janetta!" Sebastian roared, his voice a low, menacing growl.
Carter finally snapped to his senses and blurted out, "Although Ms. Ramirez is in Boston, she has the best medical team. Her staff is right by her side, along with the maids. Since we haven't received any news, there shouldn't be any major issues."
It had been so long since Sebastian had mentioned Janetta.
So long, in fact, that Carter had almost convinced himself they had broken up for good.
With Sebastian suddenly bringing her up, Carter realized it truly had been a while since they had any updates on her.
A wave of unease pressed down on his chest, but he tried to soothe his own nerves.
He thought, no news is good news, right?
After all, with Janetta's demanding personality, there was no way she would suffer in silence if something was actually wrong.
Most importantly, she couldn't tolerate even the slightest bit of hardship.
If she were truly miserable, she would have just flown back herself.
But this time, her standoff with Sebastian had dragged on for far too long.
