He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 229

Beau didn't comment. The messy entanglement of three people was something an outsider could never truly navigate.

But after a moment of silence, he asked, "Janetta, what exactly is wrong with your health that made you take such a massive risk to fly to Boston?"

This time, Janetta didn't hold back. She laid out the brutal truth of her medical condition.

When she finished, Beau was stunned. He knew she had health issues, but he had no idea they were this critical.

"When Seb got married, I didn't leave Riverton out of spite. I left to have surgery. I thought if I died on the operating table, so be it. But I survived, and I just couldn't let go of him. Yet, I never wanted to burden him or force him away," she said softly.

There was no trace of blame or hysteria in her voice. She took all the responsibility onto her own shoulders, completely absolving Sebastian of any guilt.

She had kept this secret buried for years. Hearing it now left Beau entirely speechless.

"You..." Beau finally found his voice. "Have you never told Seb any of this?"

"The Hayes Estate was in turmoil. Even when his grandfather was alive, the shares were highly volatile. So when Helena joined the Hayes family to appease his grandfather's dying wish, I was genuinely grateful. At the very least, it bought his grandfather a few more years and stabilized the company. How could I cause him more trouble back then?"

Janetta sounded like a martyr. "Beau, I love Seb. I can suffer, but I would never put him in a tough spot. I just didn't expect..."

Her quiet sobbing grew heavier through the speaker, layered with a fragile, manufactured strength that felt like it could shatter at any moment.

"I didn't expect things to end up like this. Beau, I really don't want to make things hard for him. If he truly wants to be with Helena, I can step aside. After all, I'm the one who started all of this," she said, lowering her pride to the dirt.

"He's forcing my hand. He wants me to compromise, to go crawling back. I struggled. I hesitated. But I just can't let him go."
