He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 232

Even Carter was starting to feel unsure.

"Find out," Sebastian commanded in a dark, heavy tone.

"Yes, sir." Carter didn't dare hesitate.

He quickly backed out of the room.

Sebastian suppressed the volatile emotions threatening to consume him and scoured his computer for any news related to Janetta.

The more he searched, the more frustrated he became.

He slammed his laptop shut, pinching the bridge of his nose to stave off a pounding headache.

Yet, the image that forced its way into his mind was Helena.

That slender silhouette, alone in The Hayes Estate, never fighting, never arguing.

He used to think a woman like her would spend her entire life firmly under his control.

But in the end, it was Helena who handed him The Divorce Agreement, Helena who remained fiercely determined to leave.

Her gentle, radiant face flashed through his mind over and over again.

Eventually, it morphed into an image of absolute, unyielding resolve.

Sebastian's frustration boiled over.

The thought of the signed divorce agreement made his gaze turn terrifyingly somber.

He quickly picked up his phone and called his lawyer.

In less than ten minutes, Mr. Chaney appeared in Sebastian's office.

"Did you file the divorce agreement?" Sebastian asked, cutting straight to the chase.

Mr. Chaney was taken aback. "It's already been filed. The agreement will take effect the moment your shares are transferred."

Assuming Sebastian wanted to expedite the process, he quickly added, "You can't move it up right now. If you do, the equity transfer won't be valid. You have to wait until Mrs. Hayes gives birth."

"Retract the filing," Sebastian ordered coldly.

Mr. Chaney was genuinely stunned.

He had thought Sebastian was desperate to finalize the divorce.

Clearly, that was no longer the case.

"Mr. Hayes, if we retract it, your signature will be invalidated. Because it's time-stamped, you will have to sign it all over again next time," Mr. Chaney cautioned.

Sebastian didn't respond.

Mr. Chaney immediately took the hint. "Understood. I will withdraw it right away."

He remained silent.

Helena didn't notice him standing there.

Someone had called her phone, and she stared at the screen for a long time, as if debating whether or not she should answer it.

From where he stood, Sebastian had a clear view of her shifting expressions.

Her gaze was gentle, yet tinged with a complex layer of emotion.

Her finger hovered over the screen, hesitating for what felt like an eternity.

Finally, she answered the call.

She stayed quiet for most of it, occasionally speaking up. He couldn't read her lips.

But he could tell she was murmuring patiently in a soft, soothing voice.

It was a stark contrast to the guarded, evasive way she acted around him.

It reminded him of the old Helena.

No matter how terribly he treated her back then, she was always gentle and boundlessly patient.

He didn't know exactly when, but somewhere along the line, Helena had changed.
