He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 29

The caller ID read Carter Miles.

Assuming something had gone wrong with Janetta, Sebastian answered immediately.

"Did something happen to Janetta?" he barked into the receiver.

He didn't even bother to hide his concern, asking right in front of his wife.

Helena lowered her gaze with a bitter smirk. It didn't even hurt anymore; she was completely numb to it.

Janetta was the only woman he had ever cared about.

They were worlds apart, and she had always just been the dirt beneath his shoes.

"What did you just say?" Sebastian demanded, sounding genuinely stunned.

Helena watched his reaction with complete detachment.

She figured Janetta was probably throwing another tantrum and demanding he rush right back.

After all, the woman was an award-winning actress. Throwing a dramatic fit was second nature to her.

Helena had never stood a chance against her.

On the other end of the line, Carter spoke quickly. "I'm in your hospital room, sir. I found a file folder, and I assumed it was company documents, but when I opened it... it's a signed divorce agreement from Mrs. Hayes."

Carter had been utterly floored when he saw the paperwork.

He never would have imagined that she would be the one to initiate a split.

Honestly, everyone assumed she would cling to this marriage until her dying breath.

Grandpa's dying wish had been absolute: unless Helena explicitly agreed to it, Sebastian was legally barred from divorcing her.

It had been the old man's final way of protecting her.

So in everyone's eyes, even with Janetta's pregnancy, as long as Helena refused to let go, she would forever remain Mrs. Hayes.

Not to mention that they were only three months away from hitting their seven-year anniversary—the timeline required for his inheritance.

Yet against all odds, she was the one handing over the divorce papers.
