He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 34

Helena stood frozen, a suffocating sense of dread pooling in her stomach.

When the officer finally ended the call, the look he gave her was distinctly uncomfortable.

"Ms. Wallace, I strongly advise you to settle this matter privately," the officer said carefully.

Helena frowned. "What is that supposed to mean?"

The officer handed her a slip of paper with a phone number scribbled on it. "Call this number. You'll understand."

Without another word, he signaled his partner, and they marched the men in black out of the building.

Confused, she looked down at the paper. As soon as she recognized the digits, the color vanished from her cheeks.

It was Carter Miles's number.

Which meant Sebastian was the one pulling the strings.

The realization hit her like a physical blow.

This was Riverton. Sebastian Hayes had a million different ways to force her to her knees.

He knew exactly what she valued most.

This apartment was the only piece of her mother she had left.

It was the only place that held the memories of her parents together.

She couldn't lose it.

And the only way to save it was to confront Sebastian.

Taking a shaky breath, Helena didn't waste another second. She immediately ordered a cab to The Hayes Corporation.

As the car pulled up to the towering glass skyscraper, she dialed his number.

She was the one begging for a favor now; she had zero leverage to play tough.

Sebastian only ever responded to submission.

She rehearsed her plea in her head, over and over.

But when the line clicked open, it was Carter Miles's voice that greeted her. "Mrs. Hayes, are you looking for Mr. Hayes?"

"Yes," she replied.
