"Jana..." Sebastian tried to interject, but she didn't give him the chance.
"Helena murdered my child, and now you're pushing me over the edge too. Ha..."
She let out a hysterical, broken laugh. "For the transplant, I only need one of her corneas! Helena won't die, and she won't go completely blind. Her vision will just be a little impaired. But if I don't get that cornea, I'll die! I can't live in total darkness! Who's going to pity me then?"
"..."
"Seb, I can't lose you, and I can't lose my career. I simply cannot survive another catastrophic blow."
"Are you really going to back me into a corner like this? You wouldn't even give me the basic right to know about my own body?"
By the end of her rant, Janetta was panting heavily, her voice jagged with panic.
Sebastian's expression darkened drastically.
Abandoning any thought of checking on Helena, he broke into a sprint toward Janetta's ward.
"Jana, calm down. I'm on my way up right now," he coaxed desperately.
But he couldn't see what she was actually doing.
Janetta had already thrown her door open and was power-walking toward the OB-GYN Department.
"I can't calm down! I can't do this!" she shrieked into the phone.
"Everything I've done, Seb, you both forced me to do it!" she roared.
It sounded like a genuine, terrifying psychotic break.
Then, she violently ended the call.
Staring at the disconnected screen, the blood drained from Sebastian's face.
He pushed himself to run even faster.
Meanwhile, Janetta was already on the move.
The hysterical breakdown had instantly vanished from her face, replaced by an expression of chilling, calculated malice.
That manic episode on the phone was entirely premeditated.
She had just established that she was completely out of her mind.
Which meant that whatever happened next could be written off as a crime of temporary insanity.
Sebastian would never be able to hold her fully accountable.
And she was absolutely going to make sure Helena didn't make it out of this hospital alive.
If Sebastian wouldn't eliminate the threat...
She would do it herself.
"Ms. Ramirez!" one of Sebastian's Bodyguards shouted as he spotted her.
Janetta ignored him completely and lunged into the public elevator, frantically smashing the 'close door' button.
