He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 372

Seeing the blood, the doctor's face dropped.

He immediately administered a sedative to Helena.

Once the medication took effect, she finally quieted down.

Sebastian stood by the side the entire time, his nerves completely strung tight as he remained motionless.

The doctor then turned his attention to Sebastian.

"Mr. Hayes, I told you, you have to stop provoking her," the doctor shook his head in sharp disapproval.

"If her wounds keep tearing open and getting infected, the consequences will be unimaginable."

As he spoke, he carefully re-examined the bleeding area.

Fortunately, the tear wasn't severe.

He quickly treated it.

Once finished, the doctor looked back up at Sebastian.

"Mr. Hayes, there's another matter. I highly recommend having the transplant specialist come take a look," he suddenly suggested.

Sebastian frowned. "What do you mean?"

"The ophthalmology department already came by," the doctor replied, keeping his phrasing vague.

But they both knew exactly what this meant.

They needed to harvest Helena's cornea for Janetta Ramirez.

So, a preliminary examination was a mandatory requirement.

They had simply used a different excuse to conduct it.

Helena hadn't suspected a thing.

"Mrs. Hayes already suffered damage to one of her corneas in the past, correct?" the doctor continued.

Sebastian gave a low sound of agreement, not denying it.

"Right now, Mrs. Hayes has a persistent high fever, and even the strongest medications aren't bringing it down. We can't immediately pinpoint the root cause."

"It could be an infection, or it could be her body's natural response."

"But this fever is starting to affect her eyes, leading to severe keratitis. If we don't get it under control, there's no telling what kind of permanent damage will occur."

The doctor laid out the facts bluntly.

"We can't even diagnose why the fever won't break. If it progresses any further, it's going to be extremely dangerous."

The doctor summarized the dire circumstances.

Sebastian's expression changed instantly as his gaze locked onto the man.

"So, what you're saying is, if she has this cornea removed, she'll go completely blind?" he asked, forcibly suppressing his emotions.

"Yes," the doctor gave a definitive answer.

But he quickly added, "Unless we have a perfectly matched cornea ready for an immediate transplant. Then there's a chance of success."

Saying it out loud made the doctor realize how absurd the odds were.

It was a terrible collision of unfortunate circumstances.

He shook his head. "But the success rate for that is incredibly low. Mrs. Hayes has a very specific corneal structure. Finding a suitable match on such short notice will be extremely difficult."

Sebastian fell silent.

The doctor was also Janetta's attending physician.

He was well aware that Janetta desperately needed a corneal transplant.

And he knew that Janetta's perfect match was Helena.
