"It's okay. I'm just so terrified of being in the dark, and I desperately needed to hear you say it." Janetta knew exactly when to back down and play the sweet, understanding partner.
She wrapped her arms securely around him once more.
Sebastian didn't push her away, but his posture remained rigid and unresponsive.
"Get some rest. I always keep my promises," he coaxed, softening his voice.
Janetta hummed against his chest, whispering, "Sebastian, I just don't want to wait anymore. Everyone out there is laughing at me. I know you're protecting me, but I still feel so insecure. I've done everything I can. I even gave up on getting justice for our child. I refuse to lose anything else. I simply couldn't survive it."
Every single word was a meticulously calculated strike.
Sebastian stood in heavy silence for a long time.
Now, the burden of speechlessness had shifted to him.
He was caught in a vortex of hesitation, confusion, and deep conflict.
But he couldn't deny what Janetta had sacrificed.
Or the fragile state she was currently in.
Finally, he gave in. "Just focus on your recovery. Once your vision returns and your health is stable, you'll have the brain surgery next month. After that, we'll go public."
A one-month buffer. It would be enough time for him—and for Helena.
He could get all his affairs perfectly in order by then.
It echoed what Beau Sterling had told him.
Even if there was no love left for Helena, they had still shared a life together for seven years.
Walking away now meant he owed it to her to handle the split responsibly.
Otherwise, the guilt would only fester and haunt him later.
But he kept those complicated feelings strictly to himself.
"Okay," Janetta agreed smoothly, dropping the argument entirely. She lowered her head. "I'm sorry..."
Sebastian gave a noncommittal hum.
Janetta wisely decided not to push her luck any further.
Gently untangling himself from her grip, he walked out of the suite.
Janetta didn't try to stop him.
She waited until the door clicked shut.
Only then did her assistant cautiously approach the bed.
"Ms. Ramirez, I've handled the arrangements. The brat had her surgery, but it wasn't exactly a roaring success."
"Yes, ma'am," the assistant complied immediately.
There were definitely ways to do it, though all of them carried catastrophic risks.
But he knew better than to cross Janetta when she was in this mood.
He quickly scurried out of the room.
Janetta leaned back against her pillows in silence.
The VIP suite returned to a tranquil quiet.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Janetta and Helena were scheduled to have their bandages removed on the exact same day.
When Janetta's gauze was peeled away, her sight returned, though it was still a bit blurry.
The doctor provided a perfectly reasonable medical explanation for the temporary haze.
This successfully put her mind at ease.
Neither of them breathed a word about the darker mechanics of the transplant.
And through it all, Sebastian was noticeably absent.
