He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 415

Because Sebastian was in Helena's hospital room.

He didn't even fully understand why he had chosen to be here instead of with Janetta.

Maybe it was Janetta's increasingly aggressive demands that had driven him away.

Or perhaps it was that lingering, almost imperceptible prick of guilt whenever he thought of Helena.

Yet, he fiercely rationalized it to himself.

He convinced himself it was simply because there was still unfinished business between them.

He had an obligation to see this through.

Unlike Janetta's giddy excitement, Helena was eerily quiet.

It was a silence so profound it was terrifying.

She radiated a chilling acceptance, as if she was already bracing herself for the absolute worst.

Even the medical staff picked up on her dark aura, treating her with kid gloves as they prepared to unwrap her eyes.

When Sebastian slipped into the room, the doctor opened his mouth to greet him, but Sebastian shot him a silent look to stop him.

He merely gave a slight nod.

He moved with quiet, predatory grace, his footsteps making no sound.

Yet somehow, Helena sensed his oppressive presence looming in the room.

A deep frown naturally creased her forehead.

Shrouded in darkness, she couldn't be entirely certain, so she held her tongue.

Still, his arrival wouldn't be surprising.

Was he here to personally verify that she was completely blind?

She lowered her head, a bitter, self-deprecating chuckle escaping her lips.

Hope's condition was incredibly bleak. Helena had been clinging to the desperate delusion that her tiny daughter could pull off miracle after miracle.

Deep down, she knew it was a losing battle.

But until she was forced to stare reality in the face, she refused to let that final spark of hope die.

With that grim realization anchoring her, she remained perfectly still.

"Mrs. Hayes, we're going to remove the bandages now. The light might be a bit harsh at first, so please don't rush to open your eyes. Just follow my instructions, alright?" the transplant specialist requested gently.

His words caught her slightly off guard.

But she nodded anyway. "Alright."

The doctor continued with his step-by-step process. "You'll start to sense the light. When you do, tell me. Don't open your eyes until I say so."

Helena instinctively tilted her head toward his voice. "Are you saying I'll actually be able to see?"

She simply assumed Sebastian had only harvested one of her eyes.

What was this supposed to be?

Was it some twisted display of mercy from him?

She kept those questions locked behind a wall of icy silence.

She cooperated mutely as they ran through the final check-ups.

Only when everything was finished did she finally turn her gaze to the corner of the room, spotting Sebastian.

Her instincts had been dead-on; he really was there.

The man's aura was so commanding that his mere presence filled the sterile room with a suffocating tension.

Facing him, she maintained her cold, emotionless exterior.

She refused to be the first one to speak.

Sebastian held her gaze for a split second before turning his attention to the specialist.

"How are her eyes?" he asked bluntly.

"Perfect. She's adjusting wonderfully," the doctor replied.

"Are there any long-term complications to expect?" Sebastian pressed.
